Role Summary

Engineer - Utilities for Lilly Medicines Foundry in Lebanon, Indiana. Part of the Utilities Engineering startup team for a greenfield site, serving as the Plant Utilities Engineering Technical Subject Matter Expert to support the FUME Team. This role is responsible for Plant Utilities Systems such as Steam/Condensate, Domestic/Hot Water, Compressed Air, Chilled Water, Glycol Systems, Soft Water, and related infrastructure. During the Project Delivery and Startup phases (2025โ€“2027), responsibilities will be fluid as we support project delivery, build a new organization, and implement the systems and processes required for GMP operations and a strong site culture. Initial location at temporary office in Carmel, IN; permanent location at the Lilly Medicines Foundry in Lebanon, Indiana.

Responsibilities

  • Facility Start-Up: Provide Engineering Support to the Global Facility Delivery Team (Lillyโ€™s Global Large Scale Capital Delivery Team) with a strong focus on Right First Time and on-schedule Facility Start-Up (Design Reviews, Process Safety Assessments, User Requirements, C&Q Support, Unit Operation Shakedown and Startup, Facility Operational Readiness).
  • Facility Start-Up: Define And Own Relevant Aspects of the Overall Integrated Operational Readiness Plan (SOP Development, Maintenance Strategy, Automation Optimization, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, Alarm Requirements, Performance Qualification Requirements/Protocol Development, Etc.).
  • Facility Start-Up: Own The Qualified State of Equipment for Respective Area of Responsibility.
  • Facility Start-Up: Develop And Implement Unit Operation and Equipment Control Strategy to Sustain and Optimize Utilities Systems in Support of Manufacturing Operations.
  • Facility Start-Up: Support Initial Operations Training Requirements as the Equipment and Area/Process SME.
  • Facility Operations: Provide Engineering Support to Utilities Operations Through Application of Chemical and/or Mechanical Engineering Fundamentals.
  • Facility Operations: Monitor, Assess and Document Equipment Performance to Maintain Ongoing Qualification.
  • Facility Operations: Develop And Maintain the Basis of Safety for Equipment as Required.
  • Facility Operations: Integrate Mechanistic Modelling, Process Simulation and Analysis into Current and Future Processes to Enhance Process Understanding and Control.
  • Facility Operations: Identify And Implement Continuous Improvement Opportunities Related to Equipment and Processes as Core Member of Cross-Functional Process Team.
  • Facility Operations: Utilize Root Cause Analysis Techniques to Investigate Process and Equipment Issues and Deliver Robust and Sustainable Corrective and Preventative Actions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering (Chemical, or Mechanical preferred).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing operations/Utilities Systems technical engineering role (Prefer chemical or pharmaceutical).
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1.
