Role Summary

The Engineer, Process Safety will contribute technical and scientific expertise to risk assessments and process safety reviews for existing hazardous processes, new product introductions, and engineering capital projects. The role requires attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities to support process safety initiatives across projects and sites.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the PHA program across the network, determine needs additional layers of protection/safeguard needed to prevent major incidents at sites, and work with sites to ensure they are implemented.
  • Develop Process Safety guidance documents to define best practices for individual operations and engineering design with respect to Process Safety.
  • Aid in the application of Process Safety elements during project development stages for Engineering Capital Projects and New Process Introduction/Tech Transfer.
  • Represent MES Process Safety on assigned Tech Transfer or Capital Project; provide input for capital expenditure requests to ensure significant Process Safety aspects are integrated during Front-End Planning for new product introduction, product transfer, TPM, and changes/upgrades to processes and equipment.
  • Support site audits to ensure compliance with Process Safety requirements and corporate policies, utilize best practices to identify and manage risk, and conform to company directives and standards.
  • Complete and review process safety incident investigations and risk assessment screening for management of change.
  • Collect process safety metrics, develop site dashboards for key programs, and monitor EHS improvements of assigned processes.
  • Champion a culture of Process Safety excellence.
  • Key Programs include: Technical Transfers (TT) and New Product Introduction (NPI), Engineering Capital Projects, EHS Change Management, Process Safety Management, Hazard identification and Risk Assessment: QRA and LoPA, Inert Gas, ATEX Area Classification and Chemical safety.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelorโ€™s degree in chemical engineering, and 3โ€“5 years related industry experience.
  • Required: Demonstrated experience in process safety and process safety management systems.
  • Training or experience with PHA is an advantage.
  • Preferred: Working experience in a chemical or pharmaceutical setting.
  • Required: Experience working within a regulatory environment.
  • Required: Positive track record of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external clients and customers; demonstrated ability to negotiate with peers and customers.
  • Required: Strong problem-solving skills.
