Engineer - Automation Engineering (Automation Engineering Department, Eli Lilly, Foundry)
Responsibilities / Key Objectives
- Provide automation support for one or more operating areas and/or capital projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional peers to deliver robust control systems and instrumentation supporting business priorities and compliance.
- Support project delivery and GMP startup (startup expected 2025β2028) including developing/implementing GMP systems and business processes.
- Site runtime support to enhance control system reliability and lifecycle management in a GMP environment.
- Participate in design reviews and control system reviews; attend/support FATs.
- Tune and troubleshoot control loops and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Understand P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, and process control communication protocols.
- Develop/review functional requirements, design specifications, and test specifications.
- Maintain validated site control system state via validation strategies and documentation.
- Provide on-call operational support as needed; provide periodic status updates to PM/leadership.
- Support electronic systems (e.g., plant historians) capturing process automation production data.
Qualifications / Required
- Bachelorβs degree in Engineering, Computer/Software Engineering, or related technical field.
- Authorization to work in the United States full-time (Lilly does not sponsor visas).
Preferred / Plus Skills
- Experience in biotech or small molecule manufacturing.
- Control systems troubleshooting; master maintenance plans.
- DeltaV DCS, Batch Process Automation; Rockwell Allen Bradley PLCs, FactoryTalk View.
- Automation engineering experience (design, development, commissioning).
- GMP knowledge, regulatory requirements, computer system validation.
- Hands-on SCADA/DCS/PLC/MES experience (e.g., DeltaV, Rockwell, Syncade).
- Programming exposure (Python, C#, or similar) and PLC/SCADA/robotics exposure.

- Anticipated wage: $66,000β$171,600.
