Engineer – Automation Engineering (Eli Lilly, Foundry)
Key Objectives/Deliverables
- Provide automation support for operating areas and capital projects; ensure right-first-time facility startup and ongoing GMP manufacturing support.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver robust control systems and instrumentation aligned to business/compliance objectives.
- Support design and site control system reviews; attend/support FATs.
- Tune and troubleshoot control loops and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Understand P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, and process control communication protocols.
- Develop/review functional requirements, design specifications, and test specifications.
- Maintain validated site control systems, including validation strategies and documentation.
Operational/Organizational Responsibilities
- Provide on-call operational support as needed.
- Resolve complex control-system technical issues; use master maintenance plans.
- Support automation engineering activities (design, development, commissioning) and periodic project/leadership status updates.
- Support electronic systems (e.g., plant historians) for process automation production data.
- Set/reinforce standards for rigor in automation work products; strengthen GMP/compliance knowledge.
Basic Requirements
- B.S. in Engineering or related field + 2+ years automation engineering/operations/manufacturing (preferably biologics).
- US work authorization required; Lilly does not sponsor visas.
Additional Preferences
- Experience with greenfield automated manufacturing (SCADA/DCS/PLC/MES; e.g., DeltaV, Rockwell, Syncade).
- DeltaV and Batch Process Automation; Rockwell Allen-Bradley PLCs; FactoryTalk View.
Location: Initial Parkwood West (Indianapolis); permanent Lilly Medicine Foundry (Lebanon, Indiana).
