Responsibilities
Key Objectives/Deliverables:
- Mentor process control and material handling team members, including design, controls philosophy, implementation and commissioning of AGV/AMR systems
- Implement and coordinate AGV/AMR fleet management software
- Develop and implement the Automation Engineering Project Plan for AGV/AMR deployment
Operational Excellence:
- Lead/oversee Site Area leads and System Integrators for AGV/AMR fleet management systems (Functional Requirements, Design Specifications, fleet controller software, Test Specifications)
- Lead/participate in design reviews and fleet software reviews; attend AGV/AMR FATs/SATs
- Lead a team of automation engineers supporting AGV/AMR commissioning
- Provide periodic status updates to Project Management
- Create functional requirements and traffic/navigation control strategies with Warehouse and Process Engineering
- Design/configure/test fleet management software (routing, traffic management, charging/docking, interlocks)
- Integrate, tune, and troubleshoot AGV/AMR navigation, safety, and communications (LiDAR, SLAM, RFID/QR, Wiโ€‘Fi mesh)
- Implement/support electronic systems capturing AGV/AMR performance and production data
- Maintain validated AGV/AMR control systems (validation strategy and documentation)
- Support capital projects (new product introductions, warehouse expansions)
- Promote AGV/AMR automation to improve productivity, efficiency, and compliance
- Build a network of corporate contacts and vendor partners
Organizational Capability:
- Set and reinforce standards for rigor with automation/compliance consultants
- Use planning/prioritization skills; strong problem-solving and continuous improvement
- Influence peers/business partners; strong written/verbal communication
- Apply knowledge of GMP, regulatory requirements, computer system validation, and material handling safety standards
Qualifications
Basic:
- B.S. in Engineering (or related) and 2+ years in operations/manufacturing with exposure to automated material handling/robotics
- Authorized to work in the U.S. full-time; no visa sponsorship
Additional Preferences:
- Experience commissioning/qualifying greenfield highly automated manufacturing sites using AGV/AMR fleet management and SCADA/DCS/BMS integrations
- Familiarity with AGV/AMR navigation (LiDAR/SLAM, magnetic tape, wire guidance) and safety standards (ANSI/ITSDF B56.5, ISO 3691-4)
- Experience driving organizational decision-making; pharmaceutical manufacturing experience preferred
