Role Summary
Electrical Engineering Manager responsible for ongoing engineering support to RDES Operations across all Research & Development Sites in the Americas. Develops and improves processes to support the operational delivery model and manages hard services maintenance and electrical infrastructure investment to keep facilities safe, legal, and compliant. Responsible for site compliance with electrical safety and DSEAR requirements and acts as Technical Authority under GSK Engineering Standards. Based at the King of Prussia / Upper Providence, Pennsylvania site.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that the necessary installations and competent resources are in place to enable safe, compliant and reliable operations within facilities
- Act as Technical Authority for all areas from the GSK Engineering Standards that the Local Head(s) of Engineering deem the employee competent
- Execute remediation plans from policy and standards gap assessments. Escalate risks and/or conflicts with local customer's ways of working. Specifically drive the electrical safety, and DSEAR gap mitigation to closure, reporting regular progress to management
- Ensure that guidance, standards and rules are effective and in-use, both in GSK and in service partner organizations
- Ensure that adverse events related to the role's areas of responsibility are investigated, root caused identified and corrective action put in place, through engineering controls, process improvement or escalation to appropriate management for discipline and enforcement.
- Escalate issues where resolution cannot be achieved at site level with available resources. Use formal escalation routes such as VQMS and EHSOne
- Deliver technical input to capital projects as defined by RDES standard procedures - for electrical infrastructure projects or business projects with significant electrical infrastructure changes
- Raise (and risk score using a 5 x 5 matrix) infrastructure projects to minimize the risk of safety and quality non-compliance, and to minimize the risk of business disruption through dilapidation and obsolescence
- Maintain ethics and compliance values even when potential risk exists.
- Work within the site crisis team, providing crisis management on a rotation.
- Represent the Engineer Director in forums and meetings as directed
- Appointed as Responsible Person for the following statutory areas at UK sites:
- Electrical Safety (Electricity at Work, 1989)
- Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres (DSEAR)
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Required: 8+ years’ experience managing electrical engineering work and facilities services in large commercial, R&D, or industrial sites
- Preferred: Proven record of management of Electrical services within complex facilities
- Preferred: Displays knowledge of the Research & Development process and understands GxP requirements
- Preferred: Ability to establish strong working relationships with key external contract partners, to deliver appropriate site hard services in agreement with established contracts
- Preferred: Thorough understanding of statutory legislation responsibilities in a technically complex environment
- Preferred: Acts as a role model for applying standards to ensure compliance
- Preferred: Ability to work with minimal supervision

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
