Role Summary
EHS Advisor responsible for environmental, health and safety compliance across R&D sites in Cambridge, MA, Branford, CT, and surrounding locations. Provides first-line EHS support, maintains audit-ready status, and ensures risk controls are in place and effective.
Responsibilities
- Alert management to legislative developments in Environment, Health and Safety that could impact operations and ensure all permits are current and fully compliant.
- Manage follow-up actions from audits and inspections by corporate teams and authorities.
- Guide, support, and engage with managers and staff to maintain an audit-ready status across R&D groups within the region.
- Ensure EHS management system is effective and unsafe workplace conditions are identified and controlled.
- Ensure risk assessments performed are of appropriate scope and rigor.
- Contribute to EHS team meetings and provide updates on compliance and performance KPIs for the responsible sites, including preparing and delivering regular reports to the R&D EHS Forums.
- Act as the EHS advisor for R&D non-hub sites specifically the Cambridge, MA; Branford, CT; and Durham, NC locations.
- Provide day-to-day support as part of a team by delivering first-line EHS advice and managing GSK’s internal control framework, including training, emergency response, risk assessments, incident investigations, and contributions to local projects and processes.
- Carry out pre-commissioning EHS checks of new plants and facilities as well as major plant modifications.
- Provide specialist technical services (Chemical Safety, Machine Safety, Risk Assessment, etc.) to the R&D groups within the region.
- Ensure compliance with Management Monitoring and Independent Business Monitoring Programs in collaboration with the broader R&D EHS team.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Chemistry or Biology, Engineering, Occupational Safety or related field.
- Required: 3+ years of experience managing Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs, including compliance with OSHA and US federal/state regulations.
- Required: Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly to satellite sites.
- Preferred: Professional certification such as CSP, CIH or CHMM.
- Preferred: MS Degree in related field.
- Preferred: Experience with environmental permitting, air emissions, wastewater or hazardous waste programs.
- Preferred: Experience in regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotech, or manufacturing.
- Preferred: Familiarity with EHS management systems and continuous improvement tools.
- Preferred: Ability to influence cross-functional teams and deliver practical solutions in a matrix environment.
- Preferred: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS software tools.
- Preferred: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Chemistry or Biology, Engineering, Occupational Safety or related field.
- MS Degree in related field (Preferred).
Additional Requirements
