Role Summary

DSRD Necropsy/Histology Technical Specialist performs all aspects of rodent and non-rodent routine necropsy and/or histology procedures with minimal guidance. Develops into more complex pathology techniques, scientific principles, and data handling while complying with regulatory requirements and SOPs.

Responsibilities

  • In a structured environment, execute necropsy/histology techniques directed by study protocols (regulatory, exploratory, and investigative).
  • Perform routine necropsy and histology tasks timely and in accordance with SOPs and guidelines; manage all study aspects from preparation to specimen archival.
  • Communicate with pathologist and pathology laboratory manager to ensure proper collection, handling, and submission of specimens, including chain of custody for outsourced work.
  • Ensure proper use and preventive maintenance of equipment and laboratory space.
  • Ensure full traceability of work and specimens.
  • Develop an area of expertise under supervision or mentorship.
  • Identify and resolve non-routine problems in a structured environment.
  • Demonstrate business awareness of organizational impact on project delivery.
  • Reinforce appropriate behaviors and may train others.
  • Follow standard procedures to complete tasks and maintain quality and compliance guidelines.
  • Adapt standard procedures by applying knowledge to accommodate non-standard endpoints and improve efficiency, throughput, and quality.
  • Independently lead and execute multiple laboratory-based projects with minimal supervision, apply established protocols, maintain data integrity, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrate and coach others on regulatory requirements such as GLP and animal welfare.
  • Be multi-skilled with working knowledge of operations across the business to support collaborations with team groups and partner lines.
  • Recognize, document, and resolve data errors; provide guidance on documentation practices.
  • Operate effectively as a team member; record data accurately, follow instructions, communicate professionally with management and peers, and interact with customers and partner groups.

Qualifications

Must Have

  • HS Degree (or equivalent) with 6โ€šร„รฌ8 years relevant experience OR
  • AS degree (or equivalent) in a related field with 4โ€šร„รฌ5 years relevant experience OR
  • B.S. Degree (or equivalent) in a related field with 2โ€šร„รฌ3 years relevant experience
  • Good Laboratory Practice proficiency
  • Strong technical knowledge in histology and anatomy
  • Ability to apply necropsy/histology skills across various species for toxicity studies

Nice to Have

  • โ€šรขโ€ข 5 years of relevant experience in necropsy and/or histology
  • HT/HTL (ASCP) certification or eligible

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Must wear appropriate PPE for ex vivo work.
  • Must be able to perform procedures requiring lifting, sitting, standing, walking, and bending.

Additional Requirements

  • Weekend/holiday work required.
  • On Premise work location.
