Role Summary

The DSRD Necropsy and Histology Laboratory Supervisor manages a group of necropsy and histology technicians who support safety assessments in preclinical studies. This role is responsible for the daily operations of the lab serving as the subject matter expert in basic and advanced necropsy and histology techniques. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to lead the group, maintain the focus on quality and timelines for pathology laboratory deliverables, and ensure all lab data is of the highest quality and in compliance with all applicable regulatory standards including Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for execution of all necropsy and histology activities within his/her group, including protocol review, QC, and local scheduling
  • Perform all regulatory responsibilities in compliance with applicable regulatory standards and EHS standards.
  • Responsible for managing laboratory resources (space and equipment), budget (scientific supplies and travel) and personnel of onsite activities.
  • Responsible for assuring reasonable training, guidance/advice is provided for staff to maintain/improve needed skills/performance and grow professionally
  • Responsible for maintaining quality and consistency of necropsy and histology data, as well as related documentation.
  • Maintains a continuous state of inspection readiness, and oversees that specimen traceability and archiving

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field, with 5 to 6 years of relevant experience in a histology lab OR Master's Degree with 3 to 6 years of experience OR associate's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Required: Expertise in preclinical necropsy techniques, both small and large species
  • Required: Expertise in histology techniques to support preclinical studies
  • Required: Strong command of GLP, SOP writing, and developing/updating training lesson plans
  • Required: Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Required: Ability to multitask and prioritize work as needed
  • Preferred: HT/HTL (ASCP) certification is strongly preferred
  • Preferred: Prior experience managing a group in a GLP lab
  • Preferred: Comfort with MS Office applications, learning new web based tools, and familiarity with data visualization tools
  • Preferred: Experience with electronic data capture systems for traceability of histology specimens
