Role Summary
The Screener is responsible for ensuring the acceptability of donors following established procedures. The Screener must interpret health history and vital signs in relation to criteria outlined in company procedures, set up automated collection instruments, monitor donors during the collection process, disconnect donors from instruments, and manage Level 1 reactions. The Screener also supports administrative duties for the Donor Center and maintains compliance with procedures and regulations in line with current Good Manufacturing Practices. The Screener interacts directly with donors and is expected to be professional and courteous.
Responsibilities
- Confirms donor identification.
- Taught donors to use the self-administered questionnaire and assist as needed.
- Performs donor arm checks.
- Determines donor vital signs and weight and records results in the donor center system.
- Determines donor suitability by reviewing donor responses to questionnaire and confirming correct answers to suitability questions.
- Defers donors based on knowledge of acceptance and deferral criteria.
- Explains deferrals and associated time frames to donors.
- Respects and maintains donor confidentiality regarding deferrals.
- Performs donor total protein readings using a refractometer and records results in the donor center system.
- Performs donor hematocrit readings and records results in the donor center system.
- Performs quality control of screening equipment.
- Enters required information into the donor center system.
- Confirms all required donor suitability criteria and associated records are complete and accurate before determining donor acceptance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Skills
- Ability to understand and interpret government regulations and customer specifications.
- Able to work in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
- Computer proficient with intermediate skills in office programs.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Additional Requirements
- Compliance with SOPs and cGMP requirements for donor reviews and record-keeping.
