Role Summary

The District Sales Manager leads, develops, and motivates the district's sales staff to achieve targeted sales results. The role includes direct creation and capture of customer value, with up to 50% field time dedicated to building close customer relationships and deep market understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate customer relationships to increase our customer value proposition
  • Develop talent through targeted recruitment, continuous coaching and development, and active retention
  • Build and maintain a high-level performance climate allowing people and ideas to excel, while maintaining high levels of accountability
  • To learn and utilize strategic account management (SAM) key principles and consultative selling
  • Embrace, spread, and maximize the capability of SAM by working with customers on a collaborative vision, internal and external team coordination, communication, and design of customized solutions
  • Establish long-term strategic initiatives with customers; confirm pre-established value, review scorecards with decision-makers, and capture the value back for Elanco
  • To develop business partnerships with identified key customers, prospects, and consultant accounts in a strategic manner
  • In depth understanding of the customer as demonstrated and communicated through a comprehensive strategic business plan
  • Identify and assess customer needs. Uncover customer’s solvable problems and opportunities. Incorporate the Elanco product portfolio (products and services) as a part of the solution
  • Work with customers on a collaborative vision, internal and external team coordination, and design of customized solutions
  • Facilitate the transfer of key messages and scientific information about Elanco products to customers
  • Accountable for delivering sales results and implementing agreed-upon strategies and plans

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree
  • Required: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in poultry or animal health sales or equivalent selling experience
  • Required: Excellent communication skills
  • Required: Self-starter with high initiative and sound work ethic
  • Required: Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Required: Demonstrated ability to learn, apply, and communicate technical/scientific knowledge
  • Required: Travel will be required. Overnight travel will depend on location; expect 40% to 60% overnight travel
  • Preferred: Sales experience in the beef industry, feed/nutritional, animal health, key accounts, or strategic account skills
  • Preferred: Experience or training in strategic accounts, key account management, strategic account management (SAM) process
  • Preferred: Demonstrated business acumen
  • Preferred: Ability to influence across multiple disciplines (veterinary, nutritional, processing, feed milling, sales and marketing, senior management)
  • Preferred: Strong learning agility, facilitation skills
  • Preferred: Establish long-term strategic initiatives with customers; review scorecards with decision makers and capture value for Elanco
  • Preferred: Ability to relocate if necessary
  • Preferred: Sales and influence experience
  • Preferred: Passion for selling and animal agriculture
