Role Summary
Distinguished Scientist in Cambridge, MA. Strategic scientific leadership in neurology drug discovery, leading cross-functional teams and shaping direction for neurology programs. Responsible for identifying and pursuing novel targets, delivering pre-clinical packages for clinical testing, and maintaining international scientific reputation.
Responsibilities
- Innovate by applying disease-area knowledge and cutting-edge technology to identify novel targets in neurodegenerative disease
- Lead cross-functional teams to deliver robust preclinical packages enabled by biomarkers across multiple modalities
- Provide scientific insight and direction for multiple research programs using diverse modalities
- Integrate large, complex data sets to inform robust targets and pathways implicated in disease progression
- Establish and manage external collaborations
- Set project priorities and allocate resources to maximize impact
- Lead by example to execute therapeutic-area objectives
- Identify multidisciplinary solutions and recommend actions in ambiguous situations
- Contribute to the vision, mission, and tactics of the research therapeutic area and beyond
- Support due diligence activities, competitive assessments, and evaluation of external opportunities
- Inspire and lead within the group, therapeutic area, and beyond
Qualifications
- Required: 8+ years post-PhD in biopharma or academic research with demonstrated progression of scientific leadership and impact
- Required: Outstanding track record as a leader/innovator in neuroscience or genetics, foresight and judgment in planning complex projects, and recognized as an internal scientific advisor
- Required: Recognized subject-matter expert with high-impact publications, patents, and successful IND filings; ability to lead parts of regulatory submissions
- Required: Exceptional written and verbal communication, ability to convey complex science to senior leadership, regulatory agencies, and external scientific community
- Preferred: PhD with 8+ years of post-doctoral biopharma leadership
- Preferred: Strong publications record in high-impact journals with senior/corresponding-author roles
- Preferred: National and international reputation as a Key Opinion Leader in neuroscience
- Preferred: Leadership roles in professional societies, editorial boards, grant panels, or advisory boards
- Preferred: Track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and influencing portfolio decisions
- Preferred: Business acumen with due diligence, competitive intelligence, and strategic partnership experience
