Discovery Process Chemistry Research Scientist (Onsite, San Diego)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and undertake experimental synthetic work as part of the scale-up group to deliver material for internal customers (10s–100s grams scale).
- Personally deliver material and independently develop and optimize processes.
- Enable rapid delivery of material by problem-solving and sharing knowledge within the scale-up group.
- Collate and interpret complex data; organize conclusions/recommendations to guide project decisions and new research.
- Prioritize studies using solid judgment (feasibility and project impact).
- Perform advanced/complex experimental troubleshooting.
- Search scientific literature and incorporate new insights into research activities.
- Identify, prioritize, and introduce relevant emerging technologies to advance platforms and maintain competitive advantage.
- Explore feasibility of new scientific principles; implement and validate novel experimental approaches/technologies.
- Contribute to patent and/or publication preparation.
- Prepare study presentations and present experimental conclusions.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience in large-scale synthetic laboratories delivering complex organic compounds.
- Flexible approach; comfortable working across a range of scales.
- Experience using ≥5L glassware.
- Strong interpersonal skills; team player.
- Some process safety and hazard assessment experience; diligent safety approach.
- Very strong synthetic chemistry knowledge and mechanistic understanding.
Education and Experience:
- PhD or post-doc (0–3 years relevant experience) or equivalent industrial experience; or BS (6+ years); or MS (3 years).
Pay Range: $104,000–$156,000.
