Discovery IT Co-op (Spring 2027)

Scope:
Discovery IT supports scientific teams using the SONAR informatics platform to gather, create, manage, and use scientific data for research and other Wave groups.

Informatics Systems Co-op (2027) Responsibilities:
- Support program and project management activities focused in Research.
- Learn IT technologies and procedures; receive guidance, training, and mentoring.
- Perform tasks to support SONAR platform objectives and build foundational skills.
- Move legacy data (e.g., images, spreadsheets) into modern databases and help enable querying by partnering with the business.
- Assist with documentation of lab and technology functions.
- Communicate work status with customers, managers, mentors, and teammates; ask relevant questions.
- Use the Atlassian toolset to document the digital process.
- Assist with building process maps, documenting user requirements, application configuration, and testing.
- Help with inventory gathering and other platform/IT support needs.
- Work in Agile and Waterfall methodology environments.

Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a Life Science or Computer Science program pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
- Strong digital background.
- Good to strong Python knowledge for scripts/automations and working with relational databases.
- Familiarity with version control (GIT).
- Working knowledge of Posit, Copilot (and/or other LLM-based AI), Claude, AI preferred.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Organized; can work in a team and fast-paced environment.
- Can take direction to resolve incidents quickly; able to complete routine tasks independently over time.
