Role Summary

Director, Web Technology Lead responsible for strategic and technical ownership of the global web ecosystem. Define a scalable future-state web platform strategy, ensure performance, compliance, and user experience, and collaborate across functions to support corporate, brand, and regional web experiences. Location: Cambridge, MA (Hybrid role; 3 days/week onsite).

Responsibilities

  • Web Platform Strategy & Architecture
    • Conduct a comprehensive current-state assessment of Alnylam’s global web technology stack (CMS, hosting, analytics, consent management, DAM, personalization, integrations, and related tools).
    • Define and maintain a future-state web platform strategy aligned to global scale, localization needs, performance expectations, and compliance requirements.
    • Establish reference architectures, standards, and technical frameworks for corporate and brand sites across regions.
    • Ensure alignment and interoperability with Alnylam enterprise platforms including CRM, CDP, Marketing Automation, Identity, and Analytics tools.
  • Global Scale & Operating Model
    • Design and operationalize, in partnership with Customer Experience & Innovation, a scalable global operating model for web technology— balancing central governance with regional agility.
    • Define roles, responsibilities, and working models across relevant cross-functional teams and agency partners.
    • Develop standardized processes and reusable patterns for new site launches, upgrades, migrations, localization, and ongoing website operations.
  • Governance, Compliance & Risk Management
    • Ensure all web platforms adhere to regulatory, privacy, and security standards (e.g., GxP, GDPR, HIPAA, cookie/consent frameworks).
    • Lead governance for web change management, release planning, validation approaches, documentation standards, and operational controls.
    • Conduct technology risk assessments and guide remediation activities across the ecosystem.
  • Delivery & Operations
    • Oversee enterprise web platform operations, including uptime, availability, site performance, incident response, and SLA adherence.
    • Build and manage KPIs for platform health, delivery velocity, quality, cost efficiency, and business value realization.
    • Lead modernization initiatives including CMS/platform upgrades, architectural transitions, and remediation of legacy systems.
  • Vendor & Partner Management
    • Manage relationships with CMS providers, hosting platforms, system integrators, and digital agencies.
    • Oversee RFPs, vendor selection, contract negotiations, and performance management.
    • Ensure third-party partners follow architectural principles, security requirements, and Alnylam’s delivery expectations.
  • Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across Technology, Commercial, Corporate Communications, and regional teams.
    • Communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, accessible manner tailored to non-technical audiences.
    • Provide leadership to matrixed teams supporting web platforms.

Qualifications

  • Required: 10+ years of experience in web technology, digital platforms, or enterprise digital solutions, with increasing leadership responsibility.
  • Required: Demonstrated success leading global web platforms within regulated industries (pharma/biotech, healthcare, medical devices, or similarly regulated).
  • Required: Deep expertise with modern CMS platforms (e.g., Acquia/Drupal, Sitecore, AEM).
  • Required: Experience with cloud hosting (AWS, Azure), CDN, security, and web infrastructure; web analytics, tag management, and performance measurement; consent/privacy management tools; DAM integrations and content workflows.
  • Required: Strong understanding of GxP, validation methodologies, security frameworks, and privacy regulations for web ecosystems.
  • Required: Proven ability to define current state, architect future state, and execute transformation roadmaps.
  • Preferred: Experience scaling web platforms in a mid-size or high-growth organization.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with headless, composable, or API-driven architectures.
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience integrating web platforms with CRM, CDP, marketing automation, and personalization systems.
  • Preferred: Background in agile or product-oriented delivery models.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
