Purpose
The Director, Value & Access Communications shapes and advances AbbVie’s reputation, narrative, and credibility among policymakers, influencers, and stakeholders in the U.S. and internationally. Reporting to the Senior Director, Commercial Communications & Public Affairs.

Responsibilities
- Serve as Public Affairs lead supporting BESD and the IRA team; develop communications and media strategies for global and U.S. policy issues (including MFN, PBM reform, IRA).
- Lead value and access initiatives; articulate the value of AbbVie medicines in PDABs, ICER, and other value assessment forums.
- Develop and execute multi-channel corporate and consumer awareness campaigns with Corporate Marketing to build AbbVie’s presence in the D.C. beltway and targeted congressional districts.
- Lead enterprise reputation management via media/sentiment/competitive or opposition monitoring; implement rapid-response as needed.
- Prepare and coach executives for public forums and media engagements.
- Liaise with International Public Affairs on MFN and global drug pricing; coordinate U.S. and international activities.
- Integrate public affairs with BESD to anticipate policy/external/business evolution.
- Partner to bring an enterprise perspective to brand-specific challenges.
- Drive agency partner performance and ensure effective use of resources.
- Ensure compliance by managing review of external communications materials (press releases, statements, response documents, fact sheets, etc.).
- Share best practices and new ideas with the Business Unit Communications team.
- Hybrid work: 3 days in office (Mettawa)/2 days remotely.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications, public policy, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years in public affairs, public relations, or policy communications; federal/state government experience preferred, ideally healthcare.
- Track record developing and executing strategic, measurable public affairs programs in cross-functional settings.
- Strong understanding of U.S. media environment; media relations experience.
- Exceptional written/verbal communication.
- Strong executive presence; experience counseling C-suite on complex topics.
- Deep issues management, reputation protection, cross-functional leadership.
- Experience crafting thought leadership for a public company.
- Knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system and drug supply chain.
