Role Summary

The Director, US Market Access (USMAx) Pipeline leads U.S. market access strategy development for early pipeline priority assets within the assigned AbbVie franchise. This role integrates an understanding of the U.S. health system and payer needs into early asset development, representing U.S. Market Access in pipeline governance and cross-functional discussions. The position requires strategic thinking, cross-functional influence, and executive presence to ensure USMAx insights are embedded throughout asset development and hand-off processes.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible and accountable for the access point of view and creation of Integrated Asset Strategies, Early Integrated Value Propositions and Disease Area Strategies within the AbbVie Portfolio.
  • Collaborate with teams across BUs, PCS, IMAP, Medical, HEOR, CBSO, IRA, R&D, and others to ensure the value drivers of USMAx decision makers are incorporated into pipeline commercialization strategies.
  • Inform clinical development programs so that endpoints and evidence generation plans (i.e., clinical, economic, and humanistic outcomes) support optimized patient access for new and novel therapies.
  • Ensure project resource needs are met; secure and allocate budgets across asset assignments to meet critical enterprise goals for pipeline assets.
  • Ensure that deep USMAx insights are embedded in all early pipeline strategies to support optimal asset development through the 1-7-5 model.
  • Initiate market shaping in a timely fashion, ensuring a smooth hand-off to Directors, USMAx Marketing, for U.S. launch readiness preparation.
  • Provide strong asset leadership, serving as the primary point of contact for USMAx Pipeline stakeholders aligned to that asset and disease area.
  • Act as a critical partner to key internal stakeholders who drive early pipeline strategy, including U.S. Commercial Leadership, Asset Strategy Leadership, Pipeline Commercial Strategy Leadership, Medical Affairs/HEOR, and International Market Access and Pricing.
  • Represent USMAx Early Pipeline as a subject matter expert at governance reviews as needed (e.g., TASC, LMG, DRC, etc.).
  • Contribute critical strategic thinking to inform access and pricing assumptions to create accurate, market-driven LRP assumptions for pipeline assets and business development (as assigned).
  • Serve as pipeline lead, accountable for USMAx financial LRP and strategic LRP assumptions for all assigned assets.
  • Work closely across USMAx teams and stay up to date on channel dynamics and priorities.
  • Partner with IRA and cross-strategy teams to ensure optimal asset planning and inform strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Demonstrate enterprise mindset and leadership, act as a role model and example across the team.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of US market access experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to influence without authority and navigate complex and ambiguous organizational dynamics with sound decision-making.
  • Subject matter expertise relevant to commercial and government payers is required.
  • U.S. market access experience across several roles is preferred.
  • Expertise in developing compelling early payer value propositions preferred.
  • Experience leading primary and secondary payer research projects to inform payer insights, market value drivers, and channel strategies.
  • Knowledge of government contracting, acquisition trends, and role of market access stakeholders across the patient journey.
  • Experience in pipeline development and/or market access launches, ideally in the assigned disease area.
  • Experience with pharmacy and medical benefit products, pricing, and GtN (Gross-to-Net) influences as well as differing acquisition models (e.g., Buy & Bill, DTP).
  • Previous disease area experience and knowledge of competitive environment as well as clinical trial endpoints is preferred.
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication skills, and executive presence are required.
  • Financial acumen and ability to comprehend complex planning scenarios required.
