Role Summary

Director, Translational and Clinical Genetics. Lead translational genetics programs within the Translational & Clinical Genetics team to identify, develop and deliver data-driven programs that impact the GSK pipeline. Provide strategic leadership across cross-functional teams, integrating genetics with genomics and clinical phenotypes to inform target and biomarker discovery, disease understanding, and treatment response optimization using precision medicine approaches. on-site presence required (minimum two days per week) at one of GSKโ€šร„รดs US or UK sites.

Responsibilities

  • Harness deep expertise in genetics with integration of genomic and clinical phenotypic data to undertake hands-on translational analyses to impact the GSK pipeline.
  • Collaborate with GSK scientists and physicians to identify, develop and deliver novel data-driven programs to aid drug discovery and clinical development.
  • Provide strategic leadership to cross-functional translational teams across priority therapy areas.
  • Establish and oversee external scientific collaborations for data generation, access and analysis to catalyse translational insights.
  • Communicate analysis findings with expert interpretation and recommendations to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Deliver objectives with strong statistical, analytic, and critical thinking within the translational context.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies in translational genetics and genomics.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous professional learning within the team.

Qualifications

  • Medical degree
  • PhD or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., translational genetics, genetic epidemiology, biomedical statistics, computational sciences, bioinformatics or machine learning)
  • Publication history or clinical practice in the fields noted above
  • Broad clinical knowledge across therapeutic areas and experience of clinical research to investigate translational questions
  • Hands-on experience with genetic data and analyses integrating genetics with genomics and clinical phenotypes
  • Ability to design and deliver innovative analyses with expert interpretation in translational medicine or drug discovery settings
  • Experience with relative and absolute summary measures to aid interpretation of group differences
  • Proficiency in R or Python with reproducible and scalable coding ability
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences
  • Strong collaboration and partnership skills with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Understanding of drug discovery and development stages with biomarkers and precision medicine concepts
