Role Summary
Director, Thoracic/Lung Oncology Medical Engagement Lead (MD required) – Remote. This role engages in peer-to-peer scientific dialog with national thought leaders in oncology within a defined geography and acts as a therapeutic-area resource to cross-functional partners. The Medical Engagement Lead collaborates on advancing science, educating on evolving clinical practices, transforming science into patient care, and facilitating the development of new research collaborations, including Investigator Initiated Trials and Real-World Evidence. The position is field-based and regional, with approximately 50–60% of time spent in the field engaging external stakeholders while supporting internal stakeholders and maintaining a high level of therapeutic expertise.
Responsibilities
- Engaging in high-quality peer-to-peer scientific dialog with key National Thought Leaders in Oncology focused on pre- and peri-launch period.
- Medical Strategy Advisory: collaborates with NTLs to identify and generate insights on evolving care paradigms to inform medical strategy; provides strategic input into materials for national medical congresses and communicates insights to medical and commercial organizations to support strategy development and business decisions.
- Evidence facilitation: facilitates scientific partnerships and research collaborations with Global Drug Development; provides recommendations and insights to the clinical development team on study feasibilities within the therapeutic area; proactively leads major evidence readouts to investigators partnering with GDD and liaises with large key accounts to understand clinical levers and barriers to patient access in the context of clinical trials.
- Medical engagement: collaborates with NTLs to gain insights into the clinical landscape; develops product/disease-area medical plans that translate into launch and Life Cycle Maintenance activities; conducts evidence read-outs with leading institutions; engages with medical societies, patient advocacy groups, and guideline discussions; engages account-level decision makers at selected Academic Medical Centers to identify barriers and solutions to improve patient care and outcomes.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience with emphasis on lung cancers or lung cancer specialty
- MD recruited from top clinical practice and hospital-academic centers
- Proven record of developing high-impact peer-to-peer relationships and influence with high-impact NTLs
- Strong Oncology experience
- Knowledge of scientific or clinical area, patient treatment trends, and clinical landscape
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry, including compliance and regulatory guidelines
- Knowledge of clinical trial design and process
- Knowledge of national and regional healthcare and access environment
- Experience working in a scientific and/or clinical research environment
- Deep understanding of NTL environment and needs
