Role Summary
As a key leader within the Strategic Sourcing function, this role manages and formulates strategies for Marketing categories to facilitate and enhance commercialization across disease areas and regions. It encompasses the category life cycle, including development and implementation of multi-year sourcing strategies, and ongoing management of strategic supplier relationships and performance evaluation. In partnership with Business Units and Finance, you will set category objectives and take full responsibility for their implementation, assisting in managing strategic suppliers to drive continuous improvement, address complex challenges, and uncover opportunities that deliver value to Vertex and patients. This position is highly visible and involves communicating with Senior Executive leaders. Based in Boston, MA (Seaport) with a hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 days remote) and global travel, including to London, to establish and maintain stakeholder relationships.
Responsibilities
- Strong business partnering acumen to build influential relationships with stakeholders, understand objectives and challenges, bring supplier and marketplace expertise, and drive multi-year strategic and operational plans.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain category strategies in partnership with business stakeholders for all sub-categories, with ongoing refreshment to meet evolving needs.
- Own the Supplier Performance/Relationship Management process, including performance monitoring, meeting preparation, action tracking, dashboards, and Executive Business Reviews follow-up.
- Define KPIs and performance metrics with the business and integrate them into contractual documents and dashboards to ensure supplier performance and continuous improvement.
- Identify applicable risks as part of the Sourcing process, coordinating with Risk SMEs to assess and mitigate as needed.
- Lead complex negotiations on price and terms with internal stakeholders (Business Partners, Legal) and create negotiation planners aligned with all parties upfront.
- Mentor Sourcing colleagues, temporary workers, and/or interns as directed by the manager.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelorβs Degree and MBA required
- Required: 10+ years of strategic sourcing experience including relevant Marketing Procurement experience
- Required: Good understanding of the nuances associated with a regulated environment
