Clinical Research and Development
Position Summary:
- Lilly’s Advanced Molecular Design (AMD) team is responsible for small molecule lead optimization with rapid progress toward new clinical candidates for patients in need. Apply computational chemistry tools in close collaboration with medicinal chemistry and structural biology.

Responsibilities:
- Structure-based design for lead/late-stage optimization of small molecule therapeutics across therapeutic areas
- Prioritize medicinal chemistry efforts through critical analysis and decision-making to enable focused, rapid progress
- Ensure timely delivery of data and results to project teams to support iterative design cycles
- Maintain critical timelines and set team expectations for efficient delivery of clinical candidates
- Contribute to higher-level decision-making, including prioritization of the small-molecule discovery portfolio
- Collaborate with AMD and therapeutic area leaders to move molecules from leads to quality drug candidates
- Evaluate external technologies and related business development opportunities

Basic Requirements:
- PhD in Chemistry, Biophysics, or related discipline with 6–15 years of Drug Discovery research experience

Additional Preferences:
- Deep computational chemistry background for compound optimization
- Proven cross-disciplinary collaboration (medicinal chemists, structural biologists, and others)
- Mentoring commitment for earlier-career computational chemists
- Desire to help patients in need; proven drug discovery success
- Ability to generate creative optimization hypotheses across projects
- Knowledge of small molecule-protein interactions, ADME, and toxicological considerations
- Stay current with industry developments and novel techniques (including AI/ML)
- Agility and adaptability to changing research priorities

Physical Demands/Travel:
- Office environment; travel may be required

Work Environment:
- Onsite in San Francisco, CA or Louisville, CO

Compensation/Benefits (as stated):
- Anticipated wage: $193,500 - $338,800
