Position Summary:
- Advance small-molecule lead optimization toward new clinical candidates by applying computational chemistry tools in close collaboration with medicinal chemistry and structural biology colleagues.
Responsibilities:
- Lead structure-based design efforts for lead/late-stage optimization of small-molecule therapeutics across therapeutic areas.
- Prioritize medicinal chemistry efforts through critical analysis and decision-making to drive focused work and rapid progress.
- Ensure timely delivery of data and results to enable rapid iterative design cycles.
- Maintain critical timelines and set team expectations for efficient delivery of clinical candidates.
- Contribute to higher-level decision-making, including prioritization of the overall small-molecule discovery portfolio.
- Partner with AMD and therapeutic area leaders to move molecule portfolios from leads to quality drug candidates.
- Evaluate external technologies and related business development opportunities.
Qualifications (Basic Requirements):
- PhD in Chemistry, Biophysics, or related discipline with 6β15 years of drug discovery research experience.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Deep computational chemistry background to guide compound optimization.
- Proven cross-disciplinary collaboration to meet project goals and timelines.
- Experience collaborating with medicinal chemists, structural biologists, and other disciplines.
- Commitment to mentoring earlier-career computational chemists.
- Strong track record of success in drug discovery.
- Knowledge of lead optimization (structure-based design and computational chemistry), including small moleculeβprotein interactions, ADME, and toxicology considerations.
- Stay current on industry developments and novel techniques, including AI/ML.
- Creative, hypothesis-driven approach and adaptability to changing priorities.
Benefits/Compensation (as stated):
- Anticipated wage: $193,500 - $338,800.
