Core Responsibilities
- Uncover/identify compelling content for scientific earned media storytelling opportunities and secure placement in high-impact media outlets (including new/emerging outlets).
- Discover and develop relationships with science-focused earned media outlets and journalists.
- Use knowledge of media, science, and the competitive landscape to inform engagement strategies.
- Serve as point person for major news outlets interested in Pfizer’s science and research; align with broader pipeline and clinical innovation efforts.
- Arrange and staff media engagements with Pfizer scientists and science spokespeople; prepare them for opportunities tied to core priorities (including chronic weight management and vaccine development).
- Translate Pfizer’s science for media audiences; partner with R&D, medical, and business partners on story content, proof points, and strategy.
- Support development of press materials (Q&As, press releases, leader talking points, preparation documents).
- Lead development and deployment of high-impact storytelling across traditional and emerging media.
- Define KPIs and earned media success metrics for pipeline efforts and report insights to senior communications leadership.
- Partner on key catalyst and milestone calendar.
- Advise leaders and manage proactive or reactive strategy for safety and medical topics related to Pfizer vaccines and/or medicines.
- Lead development and deployment of high-impact executive digital content (written, visual, video).
- Orchestrate scientific congress earned media efforts (e.g., ADA, ObesityWeek, IDWeek, ECCMID, World Vaccine Congress) and coordinate with Investor Relations on press/earnings disclosures.
- Balance proactive thought leadership with disciplined restraint during sensitive/high-risk periods.
- Partner across Corporate Communications, Policy, Investor Relations, and regional teams to align executive digital activity with enterprise campaigns and critical moments.
- Share frameworks, insights, and best practices to elevate media relations capability across the organization.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (communications, English, social sciences, business/economics, healthcare/pre-med, or related).
- 8+ years of media relations/communications experience (pharmaceutical, biotech, medical, or related research environment).
- Track record of scientific story placements in top-tier, trade, and relevant media.
- Solid experience managing significant healthcare issues.
- Strong understanding of media, digital, social, internal, and executive communications; current on best practices and trends.
- Mastery of AI basics and hands-on knowledge of using LLMs in communications work.
- Self-initiated; capable of day-to-day independent direction.
- Excellent presentation and persuasive skills.
- Ability to manage pressure, meet deadlines, and monitor/evaluate results.
- High attention to detail; strong organizational skills; sound judgment under pressure.
- Demonstrated collaboration record.
- Strong strategic thinking, writing/editing, storytelling, and editorial judgment.
- Resilience and adaptability in dynamic/ambiguous environments; credibility and interpersonal presence to build trust at senior levels.
