Who We Are

Agios is a biopharmaceutical company that is fueled by connections. We thrive in a supportive, fun, and flexible environment full of people empowered to bring their whole selves to work. We care deeply about our work, each other, and the patients who count on us. Our teams cultivate strong bonds with patient communities, healthcare professionals, partners, and colleagues, which helps us discover, develop, and deliver therapies for rare diseases – and make a bigger difference in their lives. In the U.S., Agios markets a first-in-class pyruvate kinase (PK) activator for the treatment of hemolytic anemia in adults with PK deficiency. Building on the company’s leadership in the field of cellular metabolism, Agios is advancing a robust clinical pipeline of investigational medicines with active and planned programs in alpha- and beta-thalassemia, sickle cell disease, pediatric PK deficiency, and MDS-associated anemia.

The Impact You Will Make

Agios Pharmaceuticals is seeking a dynamic Associate Scientist to join our Biology team within the Translational Research department. The ideal candidate is driven to fulfill our mission to develop novel treatments for patients with diseases with a high unmet medical need. The Associate Scientist’s contributions will be of high impact towards shaping the company’s understanding of how unique therapeutic approaches can be applied to treat underserved indications as well as identifying additional indications which could benefit from treatment with existing assets. This includes developing cell-based assays aimed to elucidate the therapeutic mechanism of action and proof-of-concept, as well as identifying key pharmacodynamic biomarkers, all of which will shape the design of in vivo studies and clinical trials.

What You Will Do

  • Represent Biology working in a multi-functional team of researchers, clinicians, and regulatory members with the common goal of advancing pre-clinical assets to IND filing.
  • Optimization and validation of cell-based systems relevant to therapeutic target tissue to verify drugging strategy and elucidate mechanism of action.
  • Evaluate and expand the use of available technologies towards the identification and quantitation of translatable biomarkers.
  • Analyze and interpret data, synthesize conclusions and propose next steps to the working team.

What You Bring

  • MS or BA in Biology with 3+ years of experience in industry or 5+ years total professional experience.
  • Strong track record of thoroughly documenting experiments in a lab notebook and the ability to analyze, illustrate and present data for discussion.
  • Skilled in the isolation, culturing and treatment of cells as well as biomarker analysis using qPCR, western blotting and ELISA.
  • Experienced user of Seahorse and FACS instruments.
  • Background in cellular metabolism is preferable but not required.

Work Location

Location Specific – Onsite: This role requires the majority of work to be completed onsite at our Cambridge Headquarters. While it is expected that this role will be onsite a minimum of 4 days a week, Agios values flexibility, and flexible schedules around onsite work are available. Regular conversations with manager are encouraged to ensure alignment on in-person presence/expectations. Employees in this role are expected to live within a commutable distance to the office.

What We Will Give You
