Position Summary:
Director, R&D Sourcing and Procurement (San Diego, CA or Princeton, NJ)
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop short- and long-term sourcing strategies for R&D vendors, with a focus on Clinical Operations vendors.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (R&D Operations, Clinical Operations, and other business leads) to identify sourcing needs and align strategies to business goals.
- Assess, benchmark, and negotiate key R&D vendor contracts; conduct contract gap analysis.
- Contribute to R&D vendor governance (vendor optimization, risk assessment, and operational performance evaluation).
- Track vendor budget and related changes (e.g., CRO change orders, risk/reward proposals, volume discounts, savings validation) with R&D leads, operational teams, and FP&A.
- Monitor industry trends and emerging procurement technologies (e.g., AI) to improve vendor intelligence and sourcing automation.
Education/Experience/Skills:
- Proven leadership managing and negotiating large, complex R&D vendor spend (especially CROs) with cross-functional leverage.
- Success developing/executing short- and long-term R&D sourcing strategies in complex environments.
- 12+ years sourcing experience with deep knowledge of pharmaceutical vendors across Clinical Operations, preclinical, medical affairs, pharmacovigilance, and regulatory affairs.
- Strong negotiation and vendor benchmarking across R&D contract types.
- Proficiency with procurement systems: S2P (Coupa), CLM (Agiloft), and upcoming AI sourcing tools.
- Familiarity with savings reporting methodology and tools (e.g., Smartsheet).
- BS/BA or equivalent.

- Up to 5% domestic/international travel.
Benefits/Compensation:
- Competitive base salary plus discretionary bonus and equity awards.
- Salary range: $178,000β$222,900 USD.
