Position Summary:
Director, R&D Sourcing and Procurement (based in San Diego, CA or Princeton, NJ). Lead the development of R&D sourcing strategies for key global vendors (Clinical Ops, Medical Affairs, Translation Meds, Pharmacovigilance, Regulatory Affairs) and drive contract identification, assessment, selection, negotiation, execution, and vendor relationships.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop short- and long-term sourcing strategies for R&D vendors (focus on clinical operations).
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify sourcing needs and align strategies to business goals.
- Assess, benchmark, and negotiate existing R&D vendor contracts; conduct gap analysis.
- Help establish R&D vendor governance (optimization, risk assessment, performance evaluation).
- Track vendor budget progress/status with R&D leads/Operations/FP&A (e.g., change orders, risk-reward proposals, volume discounts, savings validation).
- Monitor industry trends and evolving procurement technology (e.g., AI) to improve vendor intelligence and sourcing automation.
Qualifications/Experience/Skills:
- 12+ years’ sourcing experience in pharmaceutical R&D (Clinical Ops, preclinical, medical affairs, pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs), with strong leadership in complex vendor spend (esp. CROs).
- Proven success developing and executing short- and long-term R&D sourcing strategies.
- Strong negotiation and vendor benchmarking across R&D contract types.
- Proficient with S2P (Coupa), CLM (Agiloft), and AI sourcing tools; familiarity with savings reporting tools (e.g., Smartsheet).
- BS/BA or equivalent.
- Willing to seek innovative savings; clear communication to stakeholders; ensure compliance with corporate SOPs; up to 5% travel.
