Position Summary:
Director, R&D Sourcing and Procurement (based in San Diego, CA or Princeton, NJ). Lead the R&D Sourcing & Procurement team and develop R&D vendor sourcing strategies for clinical operations, medical affairs, translation meds, pharmacovigilance, and regulatory affairs. Identify, assess, select, negotiate, and execute contracts, manage vendor relationships, and contribute to sourcing/procurement policy, governance, and SOPs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop immediate and long-term sourcing strategies for R&D vendors (focus: clinical operations vendors).
- Partner with cross-functional teams (R&D Operations, Clinical Operations, business leads) to identify sourcing needs aligned to business goals.
- Assess, benchmark, negotiate key R&D vendor contracts; conduct gap analysis.
- Help establish R&D vendor governance (optimization, risk assessment, operational performance evaluation).
- Track vendor budget progress with stakeholders (including CRO change orders, risk/reward proposals, volume discounts, saving validation).
- Monitor industry trends and evolving procurement technology (e.g., AI) to improve vendor intelligence and sourcing automation.

Education/Experience/Skills:
- 12+ years sourcing experience in pharma vendors (Clinical Ops, preclinical, medical affairs, pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs).
- Leadership in managing/negotating large complex R&D vendor spend (especially CRO spend) with cross-functional leverage.
- Proven success developing and executing short- and long-term R&D sourcing strategies.
- Strong negotiation and vendor benchmarking across R&D contract types.
- Proficient in procurement systems: S2P (Coupa), CLM (Agiloft), and emerging AI sourcing tools.
- Familiar with sourcing savings reporting methods/tools (e.g., Smartsheet).
- BS/BA or equivalent relevant education.

- Drive tangible results/savings; communicate strategies clearly; comply with corporate compliance SOPs.
- Up to 5% travel as needed.
