Role Summary

Director, R&D Chemistry β€šΓ„Γ¬ Lead and innovate in expanding small molecule and peptidomimetic antibody-conjugate drug discovery capabilities, integrating with biologics and genetic medicines expertise. Drive multi-modality antibody conjugate therapeutics across oncology, metabolic disease, infectious disease, immunology and inflammation, neuroscience, and ophthalmology. Lead a collaborative team of synthetic organic, medicinal chemistry and bioconjugation scientists to develop antibody-targeted drug therapeutics with optimal in vitro and in vivo properties.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise and manage the day-to-day activities of the R&D Chemistry group, providing vision, inspiration, and both short-term and long-term goals. Communicate priorities, policies, and goals of Regeneron Senior Leaders to the group.
  • Perform medicinal chemistry SAR-driven optimization of novel small molecule and peptidomimetic drug modalities to provide overall optimal in vitro and in vivo properties of the antibody-targeted therapeutics
  • Champion and lead the R&D chemistry efforts on multiple internal/external project teams, and demonstrate the ability to multi-task and parallel process to add to our continuous pipeline of Regeneron development candidates
  • Identify new strategies and technologies and improve on existing Regeneron platforms for pursuing novel synthesis and bioconjugation of small molecule and peptidomimetic drug modalities
  • Set priorities, accelerate, and ensure successful progression of the groupβ€šΓ„Γ΄s technology and pipeline projects.
  • Actively participate in departmental, cross-functional, senior leadership, and external meetings to contribute expertise and to represent the goals and vision of the R&D Chemistry group.
  • Interact broadly and collaboratively with other Regeneron groups, forging relationships and active collaborations.
  • Challenge and mentor the R&D Chemistry group to provide opportunities, visibility, and development for all group members.

Qualifications

  • Have a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry (or related), extensive drug discovery experience with antibody-targeted small molecule and peptidomimetic drug modalities including their synthesis and manufacturing, and expertise in modern methods in medicinal chemistry structure-activity relationships.
  • Additional relevant experience should include a deep understanding of biological MOAs, extracellular/intracellular target evaluation, ADME/PK, PD/efficacy, tox evaluation, and a minimum of 10 years of industry experience.
  • A track record of success in the field of small molecules, peptidomimetics, or antibody targeted therapeutics (i.e., advancement of molecules into the clinic), with experience building and leading teams is required.
  • Working collaboratively with both internal and external organizations (e.g., CROs) is essential.

Skills

  • Synthetic organic/medicinal chemistry
  • Bioconjugation techniques, platforms, and strategies
  • SAR optimization and multi-disciplinary collaboration
  • Chemical biology strategies and integration of chemical/biological solutions
  • Leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration
