Role Summary
Director, R&D Chemistry – Lead the R&D Chemistry group to expand Regeneron’s small molecule and peptidomimetic antibody-conjugate drug discovery capabilities, integrating with biologics and novel genetic medicines, and driving multi-modality antibody-targeted therapeutics across multiple disease areas.
Responsibilities
- Directly supervise and manage day-to-day activities of the R&D Chemistry group, setting vision and short-/long-term goals; communicate priorities and goals to the group.
- Perform medicinal chemistry SAR-driven optimization of novel small molecule and peptidomimetic modalities to optimize in vitro and in vivo properties of antibody-targeted therapeutics.
- Champion and lead R&D chemistry efforts on multiple project teams, prioritizing and parallel processing to sustain the development pipeline.
- Identify new strategies/technologies and improve existing platforms for synthesis and bioconjugation of small molecule and peptidomimetic modalities.
- Set priorities and accelerate progression of the group’s technology and pipeline projects.
- Participate in departmental, cross-functional, senior leadership, and external meetings to contribute expertise and represent the R&D Chemistry group’s goals and vision.
- Interact broadly with other Regeneron groups, forging relationships and collaborations.
- Mentor the R&D Chemistry group to provide opportunities, visibility, and development for all members.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry (or related) with extensive drug discovery experience in antibody-targeted small molecule and peptidomimetic modalities, including synthesis and manufacturing, and expertise in medicinal chemistry SAR.
- Deep understanding of MOAs, target evaluation, ADME/PK, PD/efficacy, tox evaluation; minimum 10 years of industry experience.
- Proven track record in small molecules, peptidomimetics, or antibody-targeted therapeutics with experience building and leading teams; ability to collaborate with internal and external partners (e.g., CROs).

Education
- Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry or related field
