Role Summary

Director-level Quantitative Systems Pharmacologist Lead to join the Quantitative Systems Pharmacology team in CPQM, within Respiratory, Immunology and Inflammation Research Unit, R&D GSK. Lead the development of mechanistic models and integrate QSP/QST approaches to inform decision-making across exploratory research through clinical development.

Responsibilities

  • Build and/or guide mathematical model development to understand disease, its progression, and drug action; conduct simulations to assess trial design performance
  • Apply mechanistic models of biological, physiological, and pathophysiological processes to evaluate disease pathways and progression, as well as drug candidates or treatment modalities
  • Develop and/or utilize state-of-the-art mathematical tools including inverse-problem modelling, simulation, scientific ML and/or statistical techniques to understand causal relationships within system-level and drug-level responses
  • Define and execute a coordinated scientific and technical strategy (18-24 months planning horizon) coordinating outputs from multiple expertise areas
  • Collaborate with biologists, clinicians, pharmacometricians, statisticians, AIML, imaging, biomarkers, and other partners to inform R&D programs and improve disease mechanism understanding
  • Implement best practices and lessons learned to further clinical pharmacology modelling and simulation contributions to the R&D pipeline
  • Create a collaboration framework with internal and external experts for model development and application
  • Learn and apply emerging modeling and simulation methodologies; collaborate with external teams for methodology application
  • Interact effectively with line management, staff, and external contacts at functional, strategic, and tactical levels
  • Represent QSP CPQM on internal advisory boards and leadership teams; promote transparency and publish R&D achievements in scientific journals

Qualifications

  • PhD, MD, or PharmD with experience in mechanistic modelling and simulation and systems biology in pharmaceutical R&D
  • Substantial experience in mechanistic mathematical modeling, inverse problem modeling and simulation, and/or scientific ML methodologies applied to pre-clinical and/or clinical drug development
  • Strong ability to rapidly learn drug-disease systems, mechanisms, endpoints, progression, and trial design
  • Demonstrated collaboration in multi-disciplinary teams with effective communication and accountability for timely results
  • Ability to make sound judgments in complex situations and prioritize multiple tasks in a changing environment
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders in a cross-functional environment
  • Track record of implementing Model-Informed Drug Discovery and Development (MIDD) approaches to accelerate patient access and expand indications

Skills

  • Mechanistic modelling and simulation
  • Inverse problem modeling
  • Scientific machine learning and AIML
  • QSP/QST modeling and clinical pharmacology
