The Portfolio Insights team enables AbbVie to make data-driven decisions on portfolio choices both within and across Therapeutic Areas (TAs). Core responsibilities include valuation of the internal portfolio, PTRS (probability of technical and regulatory success) assessments, cross-TA prioritization of R&D spend, benchmarking and analytic support for annual financial business processes.

Director, Portfolio Insights drives high-impact strategic projects and provides exposure across Portfolio Insights capabilities. Options include:
- TA strategic partner: Drive value metrics and PTRS insights for one or more therapeutic areas with TA leadership.
- Cross-TA prioritization: Support prioritization and capital allocation analytics (e.g., Quarterly Portfolio Prioritization process enhancements) to direct R&D investment toward highest-value opportunities.
- Data strategy and benchmarking insights: Advance R&D productivity benchmarking (e.g., peer comparisons) and translate findings into actionable decision insights.

Core Responsibilities:
- Lead high-priority 2026 strategic initiatives: enhance Quarterly Portfolio Prioritization (QPP); modernize valuation methodologies including AI/ML-driven PTRS; support “R&D Pulse” and peer benchmarking.
- Conduct cross-functional ad-hoc analyses, scenario planning, and strategic projects.
- Develop executive narratives and recommendations for Portfolio Review Forum, R&D Plan, and Financial Long Range Planning (LRP).
- Drive change management and capability building for data-driven decision-making.
- Build value metrics (e.g., raNPV, Productivity Index) and scenario analyses; pressure-test stakeholder assumptions.
- Support deployment/improvement of dashboards for R&D portfolio interrogation.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in scientific or business field required; advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, MBA) highly preferred.
- Consulting experience with R&D strategy/portfolio prioritization strongly preferred.
- 8+ years (Bachelor’s), 6+ years (Master’s), or 4+ years (Doctorate).
- Exceptional analytical/problem-solving; deep understanding of Pharma R&D processes, investment stage-gating, and commercial forecasting.
- Proven leadership in ambiguous, fast-paced settings; strong executive presence; excellent communication.

- Executive narrative development; ability to challenge the status quo; strong organizational/project management.
