Director, Portfolio Governance
Role Responsibilities / Typical Day:
- Own and continuously evolve the Development governance framework to enable effective, scalable decision-making across the portfolio.
- Establish and enforce decision quality and readiness standards (options, trade-offs, risks, recommendations).
- Facilitate governance forums to drive structured, decision-focused discussions with actionable outcomes.
- Define and manage governance performance metrics (e.g., decision cycle time, right-first-time decisions, deferrals, forum utilization) and run closed-loop continuous improvement.
- Synthesize governance outputs into portfolio insights (cross-program risks, recurring issues, systemic bottlenecks).
- Maintain centralized decision documentation and knowledge management for transparency and traceability.
- Oversee governance intake, prioritization, and scheduling; streamline execution using technology.
- Drive cross-forum integration to improve escalation pathways and decision flow.
- Partner with senior leaders, governance chairs, and stakeholders to align priorities and governance expectations.
- Implement governance quality/experience measurement using multi-directional feedback.
- Coach and develop team members to ensure needed skills, capabilities, and processes for portfolio delivery.
Qualifications:
- Deep understanding of drug development lifecycle and portfolio management.
- Proven experience designing governance frameworks, operating models, or decision-making processes.
- Strong analytical skills; translate data into insights and actions.
- Process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma) preferred.
- Exceptional executive communication and facilitation skills.
- Ability to influence senior leadership and drive change in matrixed environments.
- Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership.
- Experience leading/developing high-performance teams with direct people management.
- Experience leveraging technology/digital solutions (dashboards, workflow tools, analytics platforms) to improve scalability and decision-making.
- Ability to travel.
- On-site opportunity (not eligible for remote).
- Minimum: Bachelorβs degree; 12+ yearsβ experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical development, or consulting.
