Role Summary
Lead the long-range strategic planning for AbbVie's Oncology Therapeutic Area, partnering with cross-functional leaders to drive strategy across Discovery, Early Development, Late Development, Commercial, Corporate Business & Strategy, and other key functions. Build and lead teams to develop and execute long-range TA strategies, above-brand Disease Area Strategies, and integrate internal and external opportunity evaluations. Drive stakeholder alignment and synthesize diverse data into actionable strategic outputs to enable Oncology leadership.
Responsibilities
- Build integrated roadmaps for Oncology TA strategy, including near-term, mid-term, and long-term priorities
- Coordinate and lead the annual strategic long range planning process for Oncology
- Collaborate with Pipeline Commercial Strategy Leads and Asset Strategy Leads to co-lead Disease Area Strategies (DAS) of varying complexities in core tumors, including identifying key questions, structuring workstreams and analyses, synthesizing outputs, and driving alignment with working teams and oncology leadership
- Collaborate with Search & Evaluation and Business Development teams to integrate external innovation strategies with internal strategy
- Collaborate with various strategy teams within the Corporate Business & Strategy Office (CBSO) to deliver integrated strategy outputs
- Lead or support cross-disease, above-assets strategic initiatives that are critical to enable Oncology TA strategy
- Serve as a thought partner to Oncology leaders on relevant strategic topics
Qualifications
- Required: Corporate or TA strategy, R&D, commercial, business development, or related experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry with a track record of expertise in one or more therapeutic areas
- Required: 8+ years with Bachelor's; 6+ years with Master's; 4+ years with PhD

- Required: Recognized team player with proven facilitative leadership skills in a cross-functional global team environment; proven performance in a matrix environment with ability to influence and align stakeholders
- Required: Proven ability to operate with independence and project ownership to structure and drive complex project plans to address a wide range of problems in situations of ambiguity
- Required: Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact externally and internally to support business strategy
- Required: Strong analytical skills; recognized ability to evaluate complex issues from multiple perspectives to ensure that balanced risk assessments are made

- Required: Bachelor's or equivalent degree
- Preferred: Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, MBA)
