Director, Oncology Strategy

What You Will Do
- Lead the scientific and strategic direction of the APoC network, defining priority research areas and aligning with Amgen’s oncology R&D strategy
- Engage directly with key opinion leaders, academic investigators, and physicians as a scientific peer; shape collaborative research agendas and represent Amgen in scientific forums
- Partner with senior R&D stakeholders to translate scientific insights into clear priorities and actionable recommendations
- Operate effectively in ambiguity; structure complex scientific and business challenges and drive execution across cross-functional initiatives
- Lead and influence cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment to advance collaboration objectives and integrate external partnerships
- Synthesize complex scientific data and external insights to inform senior leadership decision-making and portfolio strategy
- Design and oversee external collaborations to ensure scientific rigor, operational soundness, and meaningful outcomes
- Oversee key operational elements (e.g., budget, contracting, resource planning)
- Lead network summits and scientific meetings (content, agendas, external participation)
- Drive continuous improvement to enhance collaboration effectiveness and network impact

What We Expect Of You
Basic Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree and 4 years of healthcare business experience
- OR Master’s degree and 7 years
- OR Bachelor’s degree and 9 years

Preferred Qualifications:
- 4+ years in corporate strategy, business development, alliance management, or equivalent
- PhD/MD (or equivalent) with strong oncology/translational grounding
- Experience developing and leading scientific collaborations with academic investigators and/or physicians
- Experience in both academic and industry settings; ability to translate discovery to drug development
- Deep oncology R&D knowledge (translational, clinical development, external landscape)
- Ability to evaluate scientific data and translate trends into strategic recommendations
- Experience designing/leading external research collaborations (hypothesis, study design, execution oversight)
- Strong communication across scientific and executive discussions
- Ability to operate independently in ambiguous environments
- Cross-functional experience in a matrixed R&D organization
