Role Summary
The Director, Oncology External Communications is an expert strategic communications partner who reports to the Senior Director, Oncology Communications Lead. The role drives end-to-end U.S. and Global external communications activities in support of the thoracic and gastrointestinal cancer portfolios, including Lorbrena and Braftovi + Mektovi, and key late-stage pipeline assets, including sigvotatug vedotin, PDL1V and PF-08634404. The candidate manages all relevant communications deliverables, programs and events, and provides general communications support and counsel to U.S. and global commercial, as well as the R&D teams. The candidate provides communications counsel to senior leaders on an ongoing basis and collaborates across functions and with region and country communicators. The candidate is also responsible for managing PR agencies and budgets in support of this work. Location: Hybrid.
Responsibilities
- Manages all external Communications plans, including product and disease state communications in support of business objectives
- Oversees Pfizer Thoracic and GI narratives, storytelling and external engagement strategy
- Drives communications strategies for branded communications and unbranded PR programs
- Leads communications activities for early & late-stage bladder pipeline assets
- Leads medical meeting communication strategy and execution
- Manages day-to-day work of external agencies
- Effectively manages allocated PR budget and resources in cooperation with Marketing and other internal stakeholders
- Builds strong relationships with cross-functional partners including Legal, Medical, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Public Affairs and Policy colleagues, and global and regional Communications colleagues
- Serves as Communications representative on appropriate teams
- Practices effective issues management, managing plans, materials and process
- Builds relationships and works with third-party organizations, advocacy groups and key opinion leaders on educational programs
- Drafts press releases, Q&As, statements and other written material for use with media
- Ensures alignment with global media relations and investor relations on all external programs and business issues
- Keeps abreast of market dynamics and external forces that impact brands/category
- Develops and maintains knowledge of communications best practices and adopts for use when appropriate
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in Communications, Public Relations
- PR Agency experience, strongly preferred
- Experience in healthcare/pharma sector, specifically Oncology, strongly preferred
- Highly skilled in project management
- Outstanding written and oral communications skills
- Ability to develop, implement and measure success of communications plans
- Ability to assimilate strategic information and convert it into clear and concise messages
- Ability to work effectively across functions and levels across highly matrixed organization
- Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects against tight deadlines
- Commitment to excellence in work product and deliverables
- Self-starter, able to work independently as well as with team
- Experience in Marketing a plus
- Experience in developing, managing and implementing high-science communications and public relations plans in a large, matrixed organization a plus
- Experience in building franchise positioning and corporate platforms
- Experience with executive communications

Education
- Bachelors degree, preferably in Communications, Journalism, English or related field
