Role Summary
The Director of Security is a senior leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the company's comprehensive global physical security program. This position ensures the safety and protection of all Indivior employees, facilities, assets, and intellectual property across all geographic locations. Reporting directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), the Director will collaborate with executive leadership, IT and cybersecurity teams, and external security partners to establish a robust security infrastructure. The role entails managing third-party relationships for executive protection services, conducting regular threat assessments, and providing strategic security briefings to the CHRO, CEO, and Board of Directors.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive global physical security strategy aligned with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and risk tolerance
- Establish and maintain security policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures for all company sites across multiple locations
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert on all physical security matters, advising senior leadership on threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation strategies
- Drive continuous improvement in security operations through regular assessment, benchmarking, and industry best practices
- Ensure the physical safety and security of all employees, contractors, and visitors across global facilities
- Develop processes and protocols for employee safety, including visitor management, access control, and emergency response procedures
- Co-develop and deliver security awareness training programs and oversee workplace violence prevention programs
- Design and implement security protocols for interview processes and onboarding
- Manage relationships with third-party security providers for executive protection and high-risk personnel
- Oversee executive protection programs, including residential security, secure transportation, and event security
- Evaluate, select, and manage external security vendors with SLAs and value delivery
- Coordinate protective intelligence operations to identify and mitigate threats to executives and operations
- Conduct comprehensive threat assessments and security risk analyses across locations
- Monitor geopolitical developments and industry trends that may impact operations
- Prepare threat assessment reports and security briefings for CHRO, CEO, and Board
- Develop intelligence networks with law enforcement, industry peers, and security organizations
- Lead investigations into security incidents and threats with thorough documentation and resolution
- Manage onsite security personnel and oversee physical security systems (access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, alarms)
- Ensure facilities meet security standards for pharmaceutical operations, including controlled substance handling
- Develop and test emergency response, crisis management, and business continuity plans
- Conduct regular security audits and site assessments for policy and regulatory compliance
- Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to integrate physical and digital security measures
- Develop converged security solutions addressing physical and cyber threats
- Partner with IT leadership on security technology investments and system integrations
- Support investigations involving both physical and digital security elements
- Report to the CHRO on security matters, providing updates on programs, incidents, and initiatives
- Present security reports and strategic recommendations to the CEO and Board as required
- Manage the global security budget and ensure regulatory compliance (DEA, HSE, pharmaceutical requirements)
- Maintain detailed records and documentation in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements
- Lead and develop security teams across multiple locations and regulatory environments
- Deliver security training programs and maintain knowledge of industry standards
Qualifications
- Required: Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in security, law enforcement, or military service, with at least 5 years in senior security leadership
- Required: Experience in executive protection with a C-suite background and managing executive protection teams and third-party relationships
- Required: Significant background in narcotics-related law enforcement, investigations, or regulatory compliance
- Required: Demonstrated experience in safety management, including occupational health and safety, workplace violence prevention, emergency response planning, and fire safety
- Required: Proven track record of managing global or multi-site security operations across jurisdictions
- Required: Experience in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, or life sciences industry
- Required: Experience conducting threat assessments, security investigations, and risk analyses
- Required: Track record of developing and delivering security training programs
- Preferred: Prior law enforcement service; narcotics task forces or pharmaceutical diversion prevention experience
- Preferred: Experience working in publicly traded companies with board-level reporting requirements
- Certifications: CPP required or to be obtained within 12 months of hire; Virginia DCJS 32E Personal Protection Specialist; additional certifications such as CFE or PCI are welcome
- Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of regulatory frameworks including DEA, HIPAA, GDPR; international security operations experience
- Preferred: Security technology expertise (access control, video management, incident management platforms)

Additional Requirements
- Travel: Global role requiring significant travel (approximately 40%), including visits to global sites and Raleigh location
- Availability: 24/7 for emergency response and crisis situations; ability to work outside regular hours and across time zones
- Background checks: Must pass comprehensive background check and security clearance requirements
- Licenses: Valid driver's license and passport required
- Physical: Ability to respond to emergencies and conduct site assessments
