The Director, New Product Planning will be a key stakeholder in driving and shaping the pipeline of the company. The position will be responsible for optimizing the value propositions of all uniQure’s promising pipeline programs. This individual will serve as the commercial voice within cross-functional asset teams, partnering closely with R&D, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Business Development, and Market Access to shape asset strategies from preclinical through development. The position reports to the SVP, Global Business Operations. We anticipate this role will require up to 30% of travel including to our Lexington office.
Key Result Areas (major duties, accountabilities and responsibilities)
- Serve as the commercial lead on cross-functional research and development teams for pipeline assets (typically pre-IND through Ph3).
- Develop and refine Target Product Profiles (TPPs) in collaboration with R&D and Medical teams to ensure alignment with future market needs.
- Lead indication prioritization, market segmentation, and asset positioning strategies based on market research, competitive intelligence, and unmet need analysis.
- In partnership with the Forecasting team, conduct market opportunity assessments, including epidemiology modeling, forecasting, and scenario planning to inform pipeline investment and lifecycle planning.
- Translate clinical development strategies into early commercial strategies, including differentiation, access considerations, and value proposition framing.
- Collaborate with Global Market Access to shape early pricing and reimbursement strategies.
- Partner with Business Development on licensing and M&A due diligence for pipeline expansion opportunities.
- Attend appropriate medical and scientific conferences and build relationships with the HCP and patient communities.
- Present recommendations to senior leadership and governance committees on development-stage investment decisions.
- Identifying, defining, and articulating industry, market, and emerging trends and how they may affect uniQure.
- Work actively with various policy groups to optimize medical policy environment for uniQure’s pipeline products as required.
- Lead pre-launch market development strategy, pre-launch disease campaign, patient journey, stakeholder mapping.
- Lead commercial efforts on respective program teams to ensure input from commercial perspectives are integrated into team decision making process.
- In partnership with Business Insights conduct market research and provide insights back to disease teams, informing key business decisions.
- Partners with competitive intelligence team to ensure efforts across all areas that uniQure may have interests in are aligned with focus areas.
- Effectively manage external vendor/partner relationships to ensure high quality services under the utmost compliance.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree required, advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in biopharmaceuticals, including new product planning, marketing, management consulting, or strategic planning.
- Robust commercial experiences in US and ex-US environment with innovative product launch experiences.
- Solid experience in product development and portfolio management, especially in early phases of development.
- Experience in rare diseases preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of laws and regulations that govern commercial activities in developing pharmaceutical products.
- Excellent analytical skills and solid understanding of major market dynamics and current health policy topics.
- Excellent communications skills with stakeholders at all levels of the organization; possess a persuasive and credible presentation style.
- Deep market knowledge, analytical rigor, and strategic foresight to assess the clinical and commercial viability of assets and support investment decisions that maximize portfolio value.
- Strong business acumen and experience conducting market assessments, forecasting, or opportunity valuation.
- Exceptional cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, especially with R&D, Medical, and Market Access stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity, drive alignment, and synthesize complex information into clear strategic recommendations.
