Purpose:
- Lead public affairs across AbbVie’s neuroscience therapeutic areas within the international business, with a focus on Parkinson’s disease and migraine.
- Deliver therapeutic communications, market-shaping strategies to accelerate access to treatment, patient advocacy engagement, and targeted disease profiling aligned to AbbVie priorities.
- Work with Europe/Intercontinental Area and Affiliates to ensure country-level execution that supports patient access to innovative medicines and advances standards of care.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders; member of the International Public Affairs Leadership Team.
Responsibilities:
- Lead development and execution of public affairs priorities across the neuroscience portfolio.
- Partner with government affairs, market access, and medical to create communication and advocacy strategies improving standards of care and patient access.
- Set franchise priorities and focus resources where public affairs can deliver differentiated impact.
- Collaborate with Europe/Intercontinental regions and Affiliates to ensure execution of international strategies and effective measurement.
- Lead, manage, and develop a high-performing team.
- Collaborate with U.S. therapeutic communications and R&D communications to support “One AbbVie” neuroscience pipeline leadership.
- Advise senior leaders across functions (commercial, market access, medical, etc.) to strengthen alignment and impact.
- Represent the company externally with patient organizations and media.
- Anticipate communication trends and build new capabilities/efficiencies across International Public Affairs.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in public affairs, patient advocacy, external affairs, or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public affairs, journalism, or life sciences (preferred).
- Demonstrated experience leading therapeutic area public affairs, including milestone communications and targeted disease awareness.
- Strongly preferred experience across international markets.
- Proven ability in senior leadership/matrix environments; strong executive presence and writing skills.
- Track record developing and executing measurable advocacy and communications strategies.
- Sound judgment under tight timelines and with incomplete information.
- Experience and interest in leading, developing, and motivating teams.
