Role: Director of Nephrology Research within the Research & Nonclinical Development team, focusing on rare kidney diseases. Objectives include identifying emerging science and technologies, translating discoveries into therapeutic programs, and advancing candidates through preclinical development to IND readiness. Responsibilities encompass defining research strategy, evaluating disease biology, leading program development, and establishing external collaborations for target validation, pharmacology, and translational research. The position involves overseeing research by external partners, integrating multi-modal data, and guiding program progression. Qualifications: Bachelor's in Life Sciences required; PhD, MD, PharmD or equivalent preferred; 10+ years (or 6+ with advanced degree) in biopharma, with expertise in renal biology and drug discovery; experience in target identification, in vitro/in vivo pharmacology, and external collaborations. High-value biopharma specifics include focus on rare kidney diseases, gene and cell-based modalities, translational biomarkers, early-stage development, and external research partnerships. The role requires familiarity with biomarkers, human genetics, and advanced models such as organoids. Work setup is Remote in San Diego with 10% travel; face-to-face collaboration is essential.
