Role Summary
Director, Medical Communications. Role involves developing and leading medical communications strategy, training, and content to support medical affairs and brand strategy, ensuring high-quality, compliant medical communications deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Becomes a subject matter expert with strong business acumen allowing for deep understanding of unmet medical needs and therapeutic landscape
- Collaborates and builds strong cross-functional relationships with stakeholders for specific products or therapeutic areas of focus
- Develops innovative approach to internal and external resources or tactics that promote impactful external engagements and supports the strategy of key medical stakeholders
- Develops and updates a scientific communication platform aligned with strategic medical imperatives, informing Medical Affairs and Brand strategy
- Generates an Annual Medical Communications Plan for specific products or indications based on scientific and unmet medical needs
- Develops and implements a training plan for Field-based and HQ-based Medical Affairs staff with short and long-range goals based on strategic plans
- Directly provides training of Medical Affairs staff or ensures provisions are in place to have the training carried out by other internal subject matter experts or external resources, including onboarding, therapeutic area training, and meeting support
- Supports development of medical/scientific content for scientific exchange, congresses, advisory boards, and training
- Ensures delivery of high-quality, fair-balanced, scientifically/clinically accurate medical communications deliverables in accordance with timelines, compliance guidelines/policies, and budgets
- Manages external medical agencies assisting with medical content planning and development
- Manages medical affairs website
- Support Medical Information call center as needed
Qualifications
- Doctoral level degree (Ph.D., Pharm.D., or M.D.) in life sciences with minimum of 5 years bio-pharmaceutical industry experience within Medical or Clinical Affairs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand and effectively communicate complex scientific and clinical data to internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work cross-functionally with medical review team including medical directors, legal, regulatory
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Medical Communications
- Clinical knowledge in Oncology and particularly Hematology/Oncology
- Critical thinking - willing to challenge the status quo
- Ability to understand, critically analyze, and summarize complex scientific and medical data and understand risk-taking approaches regarding claims
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, think critically, and adhere to deadlines
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities or business needs
