Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company pursuing novel therapeutics for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), also known as metabolic dysfunction associated steatohepatitis (MASH). Our first therapy, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), was granted accelerated approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of adults with NASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis (consistent with stages F2 to F3 fibrosis) and is being studied in a Phase 3 trial for the treatment of NASH with compensated cirrhosis.

Overview

The Director, Medical Affairs Strategy is a strategic leadership role responsible for developing and executing medical plans that support the product lifecycle of resmetirom and other assets. This includes lifecycle management, payer strategy, investigator-initiated studies (IIS), scientific communications, and medical education. This individual will act as a key medical expert and strategic partner across functions including R&D, Commercial, Market Access, and Field Medical Affairs.

This role directly supports the alignment and operational execution of the Health Systems (HS) Field Medical strategy to shape, align, and optimize HS-related content, resources, and field strategy execution.

Primary Responsibilities

Medical Affairs Strategy Development & Execution

  • Lead the creation and implementation of Medical Affairs strategies aligned with corporate and brand goals.
  • Develop strategic and tactical plans within the therapeutic area, ensuring scientific rigor and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Identify unmet medical needs and lead situational analyses to shape the scientific platform and lexicon.

Strategic Alignment

  • Ensure alignment of HS field strategy and content with HS Executive Director, HQ Medical Strategy and US Medical objectives.
  • Partner with HEOR to derive actionable insights from KDM (Key Decision Maker) engagements and identify evidence generation gaps.

Content and Resource Development

  • Collaborate with the Medical Director for HS Content and external vendors to ensure timely development of impactful HS field resources.
  • Track and guide resource creation tied to pipeline milestones, competitive intelligence, and congress timelines.

Field Operations & Insights

  • Partner with the operations team to align dashboards, metrics (via PowerBI, Veeva), and field tools with HS strategy.
  • Maintain alignment with Key Account Directors (KADs) and Field Directors to support account needs and share insights.

Product Lifecycle Management

  • Contribute to the lifecycle planning of resmetirom from clinical development through commercialization and post-market initiatives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to implement optimization strategies, performance assessments, and updates based on market and regulatory trends.

Investigator-Initiated Studies (IIS) and Phase 4 Studies

  • Lead evaluation and decision-making on grant submissions related to value and impact of treating MASH with moderate to advanced fibrosis.
  • Collaborate across Medical Operations and Medical Directors to execute relevant Phase 4 studies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Participate actively on the Medical Product Team (MPT), ensuring that medical initiatives align with the broader brand and company goals.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Regulatory, Market Access, Commercial, and Brand Teams.

Medical Leadership & Scientific Engagement

  • Represent the organization externally with clinicians, academic centers, integrated delivery networks policy makers, and payers.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a scientific or healthcare discipline (MD, PharmD, PhD, MS, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 8 years in the pharmaceutical industry, including demonstrated experience in Medical Affairs strategy and IIS program leadership.
  • At least 5 years of experience working within or supporting Health Systems, including payers or IDNs, preferred.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership with the ability to influence without authority.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of tailoring messages to various audiences.
  • Experience with CRM platforms, metrics tracking, PowerPoint, Excel, and analytics tools.
  • Highly organized with a proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Hybrid work model with 3 in-office days per week in Conshohocken, PA or Waltham, MA.

Compensation:

Base salary is determined by several factors that include, but are not limited to, a successful candidate's qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits, which include flexible paid time off (PTO), medical, dental, vision, and life and disability insurance.
