Role Summary

Director, Medical Affairs-Facial Aesthetics Portfolio and Body Contouring is a key strategic leader in the FAS Strategic Medical Unit, partnering with Medical functional units to develop and implement medical strategies for the body contouring portfolio and facial aesthetics assets in the U.S. This role drives data generation, content creation, in-field scientific communications, MSL training, and integration of medical initiatives with broader business strategies. The position requires compliance with AbbVie internal requirements and regional regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Establish and provide overarching strategic direction for the US Field Medical Teams on the BC and aesthetics portfolio in collaboration with the Toxins and Fillers Scientific Directors, aligning with Allergan Aesthetics medical objectives and guiding medical advisory boards to inform U.S. GAMA FAS decisions.
  • Collaboration and Integration: Serve on the Allergan Aesthetics Medical Leadership team; partner with Toxin & Filler Scientific Directors, Clinical Development, Brand, and Commercial Directors to implement strategic field initiatives.
  • Operational Oversight: Coordinate medical materials and in-field activities; ensure alignment of materials with the medical strategy.
  • In-Field MSL Training and Medical Input: Provide medical and scientific input to field activities; foster HCP interactions; generate data to enhance patient value.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with sales, marketing, and commercial teams to infuse medical insights into brand strategies and launches.
  • Asset Strategy Development Body Contouring: Influence asset strategy, execute data generation and engagement activities for ASTs.
  • AMI Initiatives: Collaborate with AMI curricula team for synchronized FAS portfolio education outputs.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Lead external interactions with HCPs and national accounts; direct scientific communication, medical education, data dissemination, guidelines, and value proposition.
  • Evidence and Communication Strategy: Contribute to gap assessments, Scientific Communication Platform, and integrated evidence plans for launch readiness.
  • Relationships: Maintain internal links across R&D, Commercial and Allergan departments; engage External Experts; collaborate with portfolio MSLs to develop thought leaders; deliver portfolio presentations and gather HCP/MSL insights to inform AbbVie/GAMA strategy.

Qualifications

Preferred Skills/Qualifications
  • Understanding of Good Clinical Practices, ICH guidelines, PhRMA code, FDA CFR, ISO, clinical research ethics, HIPAA and patient privacy laws, and relevant local regulations
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and travel up to 50% for field training
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and thought leaders
  • Influence without direct authority
Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree – PhD, PharmD or MD; additional postdoctoral experience highly preferred
  • 5–10 years in Medical Affairs; Global Medical Affairs experience highly preferred
  • Experience in aesthetics, late-phase studies, publications, and broad medical affairs activities strongly preferred
  • Leadership attributes aligned with AbbVie initiatives
  • Adaptability to market dynamics; high urgency and commitment to objectives; strong planning and organizational skills
  • Teamwork and cross-functional collaboration experience
  • Advanced analytical, conceptual, and administrative skills; excellent communication and negotiation abilities
