Director, Intellectual Property Operations

Role: Lead and optimize Vertex's IP Operations, focusing on project execution, process improvement, and technology strategy within the intellectual property management function. Responsibilities: manage patent/trademark administration, docketing, annuities, and vendor relationships; develop operational strategies, lead cross-functional projects, and implement AI and automation solutions; oversee team of paralegals; ensure compliance with IP regulations; drive portfolio review, budgeting, and financial management; collaborate with IP attorneys, finance, and external counsel; report to the Executive Director of IP for Cell & Gene Therapy. Requirements: Bachelor's degree; 10+ years in legal/IP operations or related functions; experience managing teams, complex projects, enterprise software, and data analytics; strong financial and change management skills; proficiency in technology, AI, and automation; excellent communication and stakeholder influencing abilities. High-Value: IP operations in biotech or pharma, especially within cell and gene therapy, with focus on patent portfolio management and technology integration.
