Role Summary

The Director II, US Market Access Pipeline leads the Neuroscience and Eye Care team responsible for U.S. market access strategy development for early pipeline priority assets and supports key access assumptions for business development opportunities. This role ensures the needs and requirements of U.S. payers are embedded into early asset development to position AbbVie assets for future success. The incumbent represents US Market Access in pipeline governance and is responsible for aligning cross-functional teams to prioritize USMAx deliverables within the AbbVie Portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Lead USMAx Pipeline team responsible for the creation of Asset Strategies, Disease Area Strategies and Early Integrated Value Propositions within the AbbVie Portfolio
  • Collaborate with Teams across BUs, PCS, USMAx, IMAP, CBSO, Medical, R&D and others to ensure the value drivers of USMAx Decision Makers are incorporated into Pipeline Commercialization Strategies
  • Establish team as a critical partner to key internal stakeholders who drive early pipeline strategy including US Commercial Leadership, Asset Strategy Leadership, Pipeline Commercial Strategy Leadership, CBSO, Medical Affairs/HEOR and International Market Access and Pricing
  • Inform Clinical Development Programs such that endpoints and evidence generation plans (i.e., clinical, economic, and humanistic outcomes) are incorporated that will support optimized patient access
  • Ensure Team resource needs are met, secure and allocate budget and assign asset responsibility across team to meet critical enterprise goals for Pipeline assets
  • Develop talent and ensure succession planning by setting challenging but achievable goals, developing key capabilities and competencies by providing timely and effective feedback to grow strengths and close talent gaps
  • Support the team as they inform early asset development especially through EIVP development and early touchpoints of 1-7-5 focused on market access evidence requirements and market shaping opportunities
  • Ensure that deep USMAx insights are embedded consistently in all Early Pipeline strategies and that actions to support optimal asset development and market shaping are initiated in a timely fashion until hand-off to USMAx Marketing for launch preparation
  • Engage with senior leaders on critical business development opportunities by driving assessment of pricing, access strategies, and coverage assumptions
  • Provide TA leadership representing USMAx Pipeline as a single point of contact for BU Heads and VP level stakeholders
  • Represent USMAx Early Pipeline at all governance including TASC, CSM, LMG, DRC, etc.
  • Contribute critical strategic thinking to inform access and pricing assumptions to create accurate, market driven LRP assumptions
  • Work closely across USMAx Teams to stay close to evolving channel customer dynamics and priorities, e.g., APEX, IRA, BESD, etc.

Qualifications

  • 8-12+ years of US market access experience preferred
  • Demonstrated people leadership and coaching capabilities with expertise leading through organizational change
  • Experience in Pipeline development and/or Market Access launches
  • Proven ability to influence without authority, build strong cross functional relationships and navigate complex organizational systems
  • Deep subject matter expertise relevant to complex US Market Access environment, including commercial and government payers, channel dynamics, IRA, policy
  • Experience in leading primary and secondary payer research projects to inform payer insights, value drivers, and channel strategies
  • Knowledge of government contracting, acquisition trends and customer buying behaviors
  • Experience in value proposition creation
  • Strong strategic thinking, executive presence, and communications skills
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with AbbVie’s LRP process
