Role Summary

Director, Government Affairs at MindMed, reporting to the Vice President of Government Affairs and Patient Advocacy. Develops, implements, and executes government affairs strategies, engaging with state public officials/agencies and external organizations to advance MindMed's public policy goals related to brain health and behavioral health conditions. Works with cross-functional partners to support MindMed's commercial and regulatory objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors state legislation and regulatory activities, updating and advising on relevant policy proposals and actions, and working with cross-functional teams to analyze potential impacts to MindMed.
  • Develop and execute strategies to shape state policy that delivers on enterprise priorities, including drafting written comments, analysis of complex health care policies, direct lobbying, and engagement of third-party groups and coalitions.
  • Develop proactive and reactive policy agendas to create new frameworks supporting MindMed's pipeline.
  • Assess public policy environment, determine where legislative and regulatory action is advisable and where it is not, and make recommendations on MindMed action.
  • Demonstrate and maintain strong working relationships with key state and regional stakeholders that may develop health care policies impacting MindMed.
  • Engage and partner with third-party groups that share similar public policy priorities.
  • Develop close working relationships with internal cross-functional stakeholders to leverage advocacy strategies and align with commercial strategies to support MindMed's objectives.

Qualifications

  • Required: BS or BA degree; 8+ years of experience in government, government affairs, public affairs, or policy/advocacy; extensive knowledge of the U.S. health care system (finance, payment structures, benefit design); proven ability to plan and execute a comprehensive government affairs strategy with local, regional, and state elected officials.
  • Preferred: 8-10 years of experience in Government, Government Affairs, Public Affairs, or Policy; experience in a pharmaceutical company or healthcare trade association; cross-functional project leadership; strong business acumen; ability to influence outcomes; team-oriented; excellent written and verbal communication; field-based travel up to 50%.
