Role Summary
Vertex is seeking to hire a Director, North America (NA) Kidney Forecasting, to join the North America Forecasting, Analytics and Market Research team in the Commercial organization. This individual will focus on US povetacicept (pove) and provide quantitative and qualitative forecasting and analytical support for key commercial processes and business decisions, and will frequently interact with senior Vertex leadership and closely partner with US business unit leadership. This individual will also be responsible for generating and refining the short/mid-range portion of the US pove revenue forecast as part of Vertex’s annual Long-Range Planning (LRP) process.
Responsibilities
- Lead the NA portion of the monthly short/mid-range latest estimate (LE) revenue forecasting process for the pove franchise, with the goal of accurately forecasting revenue by modeling numerous underlying demand and sales drivers
- Leverage available data sets to evaluate, synthesize and regularly present performance tracking vs. forecast analytics to understand trends, support updates to the pove forecast, and develop insights
- Own, maintain, and update pove forecasting model(s), including such activities as: update model framework and logic as needed, and ingest and apply actual sales data, competitive market data and analytics, and relevant market research-related outputs
- Coordinate the short/mid-range portion of the US pove revenue forecast as part of Vertex’s annual Long-Range Planning (LRP) process
- Working collaboratively with cross functional stakeholders including but not limited to US Marketing, Global Marketing, US Market Access, US and Global Finance, Supply Chain, etc.
- Deliver robust quantitative market assessments with clear articulation of the key drivers, sensitivities, risks and opportunities
Skills
- Experience in a wide range of forecasting methodologies and approaches, and continuously engaged and informed on new/emerging methods, both within and outside the biotech industry
- Experience modeling/forecasting within competitive biotech/pharma markets
- Proficiency in complex Excel modeling, and experience analyzing and developing insights from large data sets, leveraging relevant environments and tools such as snowflake, SQL, Power BI, python, SAS, VBA, etc.
- Strong analytical and business acumen: intellectual curiosity, motivation and ability to structure problems, diagnose issues and triangulate with multiple approaches while keeping sight of the “big picture”
- Experience working with senior leadership to support financial forecasting and analytics, and/or commercial launch planning
- Ability to quickly and thoughtfully adapt to new and evolving business and planning needs
Education
- Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline required (Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Science).
Qualifications
- 10+ years in biotech/pharmaceuticals in a quantitative role in Commercial / Finance / Corporate Strategy / BD, and/or 6 years in a relevant consulting role (management, strategic or economic consulting) post-MBA/PhD, with meaningful biotech/pharmaceuticals and quantitative decision support experience.
