Role Summary
Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (BD FP&A) will serve as a senior, finance-focused partner within the Business Development Finance organization. The role is for an analytical, enterprise-minded finance professional who leads through rigorous analysis and sound financial judgment, supports external growth and enterprise initiatives, and provides disciplined decision support across a large, global biotech organization. It includes oversight and development of one direct report, and is best suited for candidates seeking continued growth within Finance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute financial evaluations in support of the Business Development organization, including valuation modeling, scenario and sensitivity analyses, and comparable transaction benchmarking
- Deliver hands-on financial analyses for potential and existing alliances and partnerships to support strategic reviews, business cases, and long-range planning
- Oversee, review, and coach one direct report, ensuring high-quality financial models, sound assumptions, and consistent analytical standards
- Serve on deal teams, providing valuation, diligence, and analytical support throughout the transaction lifecycle while maintaining independent financial judgment
- Review term sheets and contracts, advising on financial aspects and key provisions, and coordinate input from Accounting, Tax, Treasury, and other finance functions to ensure a comprehensive and consistent financial perspective
- Partner with senior leaders across R&D, Technical Operations, and Commercial to translate complex business questions into financial frameworks and decision-ready analyses
- Lead and execute finance-led strategic analyses for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), delivering clear, data-driven insights to support enterprise strategic and operational decisions
- Synthesize analyses into actionable, finance-grounded recommendations that inform strategic planning, capital allocation, and operational improvement initiatives
- Directly manage and develop one finance professional, providing coaching, technical guidance, and performance feedback
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of tools, templates, and best practices that elevate analytical rigor and consistency across the Finance organization
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's Degree in Finance or other quantitative-focused field (e.g. Statistics, Economics, Mathematics)
- Preferred: MBA, CFA, or equivalent
- Required: A minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in Finance within biotech, pharma, or life sciences
- Required: Strong business acumen with experience supporting R&D, portfolio, or business development functions
- Required: Strong understanding of financial models, valuations, and business proposals
- Required: Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight timelines
- Required: Demonstrated ability to influence and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders in a matrixed environment
- Required: Demonstrated ability to translate complex financial information and assumptions into effective presentations
Skills
- Advanced financial modeling and valuation skills — ability to build and interpret discounted cash flow (DCF), net present value (NPV), IRR, and scenario-based models for BD and strategic decisions
