Role Summary

Director of Data Strategy to join the Finance Transformation team. The Director will oversee the strategy, design, implementation, and management of the organization's enterprise finance data foundation, leading a team delivering enterprise financial systems and ensuring effective governance of data within those systems. The role sets strategy and aligns Finance goals with AbbVie’s Enterprise vision, with a focus on expanding capabilities within the SAP environment and supporting related technology programs from a Finance perspective.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes a comprehensive data strategy aligned with business objectives, ensuring the effective capture, storage, analysis, and utilization of data assets, as well as optimized analytic tools and systems.
  • Leads and develops a high-performing data analytics team responsible for providing enterprise-wide data insights to steer business strategy and decision-making.
  • Creates a data-centric approach to support business questions, decisions, and actions by assisting with the development of an analytics and data roadmap.
  • Works with Finance stakeholders and Business Technology Services (BTS) to continuously manage team delivery to project timelines, deliverables, and milestones, ensuring timely, high-quality, and high-adoption data products.
  • Collaborates with Finance stakeholders and BTS to ensure infrastructure designs and approaches meet the required business data and analytic capabilities.
  • Contributes to the creation of a multi-year roadmap for Finance data and system capabilities, including investments in people, processes, and technology.
  • Collaborates with other business systems owners to rationalize the data environment across the Finance enterprise into a scalable, central data architecture.
  • Collaborates with Finance Data Governance team members to ensure governance frameworks that support both centralized strategy and localized business unit needs are met.
  • Stays current on emerging trends and technologies in data and analytics delivery, and provide recommendations for adopting new capabilities, tools, and platforms.
  • Manages external vendors or consultants to ensure the successful implementation and integration of data systems within the existing environment.
  • Builds high-trust relationships with business partners.
  • Ensures compliance with data privacy regulations and other legal requirements related to data management.
  • Execute the enterprise data strategy and influence decision-makers while leading data change management efforts across the organization.
  • Drive an effective data-driven culture that scales to meet the needs of all Finance functions across AbbVie.

Qualifications

  • Preference for candidates local to the Chicagoland area.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Information Technology or related field.
  • Minimum 12 years of progressive leadership experience.
  • Implementation experience with Data Governance, Data catalog, Analytics, etc. tools.
  • Experience with SAP Suite products, PowerBI, Tableau, etc.
  • Strong financial acumen and familiarity with financial systems and processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills.
  • Solid business judgment capable of driving a diverse organization to the right results with a focused, pragmatic approach.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional leadership skills and ability to influence individuals significantly senior to self.
  • Demonstrated executive presence and ability to represent AbbVie Finance in a professional manner with senior executives and external partners.
  • Experience interacting independently with senior leadership on strategic, tactical and confidential issues that have both immediate and long-term business impacts.
  • Demonstrated project management ability of multiple simultaneous projects with many moving pieces.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, adaptable to last-minute changes in requirements or priorities.
  • Ability to get results through collaboration and coordination with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Advanced analytical and process diagnostic skills and the ability to get into the details, while also understanding and driving the full team to achieve results in line with the “big picture” objectives.
  • Conflict resolution capabilities, particularly in finding common ground for win/win solutions in a matrixed environment.
  • Ability to deliver feedback, recognize strong performance, and also recognize when corrective action would benefit individual and group performance.
