Role Summary
The Director, Feasibility & Start-up Analytics, Data Science & Analytics is a leadership role responsible for driving vision, strategy, talent management and operations delivery of key planning, feasibility and real-world data products and insights across AbbVie’s portfolio. Identifies new capabilities and opportunities to drive analytics innovation and value creation. Fosters a culture of experimentation to enable data-driven insights for complex business problems. Influences cross-functional leaders to unleash the full potential of data and advanced analytics techniques like Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
Responsibilities
- Manages line-level people managers and guru data scientists to execute on the Data Science and Analytics strategy
- Lead next generation technology and process to enable enterprise data analytics on pace with emerging integrated data sources (operational data, real world data, clinical trial data, and other public data sources); Monitors emerging trends across the external technology and analytics environment. Assess impacts to current and future strategies
- Responsible for coaching, mentoring and performance management of direct reports; Develops future leaders in alignment with R&D business needs
- Identifies new capabilities and opportunities to drive analytics innovation and value creation for the responsible business areas (Clinical Trial Feasibility and Start-up). Forms cross-functional teams to implement new capabilities; Responsible for crafting functional area strategies while ensuring alignment with the cross-functional stakeholder groups
- Influences the cross-functional stakeholders and Sr. Executives to identify opportunities to unleash the full-potential of data and analytics, including advanced ML techniques and Artificial Intelligence
- Influences AbbVie’s enterprise data governance as a steward of clinical trials data and other sources that are utilized and analyzed by the team. Influence data owners from across R&D as well as areas that collaborate with R&D
- Translate R&D strategy into functional area plans. Works with cross-functional leaders to gain alignment on project prioritization and timelines
- Fosters innovation and entrepreneurial culture within the team that attracts and retains top talent; creates an environment of continuous learning
- Ensures adherence to federal regulations and applicable local regulations, Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), ICH Guidelines, AbbVie Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and to functional quality standards. Stays abreast of new and/or evolving local regulations, guidelines and policies related to clinical development
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree statistics, analytics, bioinformatics, data science or equivalent field. Master’s degree preferred
- Must have 8-10+ years of experience with enabling novel analytics capabilities across business areas with 5-6 years of experience leading a team or cross functional initiatives
- Advanced domain knowledge in clinical trial planning, feasibility, start-up, and relevant data sources
- Expertise in current and emerging technologies (e.g., Data Visualizations, Big Data, AI, Machine Learning, NLP/NLG, Cognitive Analytics etc.) preferred
- Intermediate proficiency with visualization tools like Spotfire, Tableau or equivalent
- Track record with building high-performing Analytics and Data Science teams; Ability to attract, challenge, develop and retain specialized talent with expertise in clinical development.
- Experience with Machine Learning and other advanced analytics techniques preferred
- Demonstrated effective communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate analytical and technical concepts in layman’s terms
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills. Track record with scaling multiple data science and analytics capabilities across the function/enterprise
- Demonstrated history of leading in a fast-paced environment and delivering meaningful impact on business outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to influence Sr. Executives and cross-functional leaders
- Good understanding of clinical development functional areas and related processes is preferred
- Proven track-record with leading complex cross-functional initiatives and change management efforts
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in statistics, analytics, bioinformatics, data science or equivalent field. Master’s degree preferred
