Role Summary

Director, External Manufacturing - Small Molecule. Manage a team of Manufacturing Professionals assigned to Third Party Manufacture (TPM) contracts for small molecule products to ensure high quality product is manufactured in compliance with regulations and delivered according to forecasts, schedules, and cost plans.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of AbbVie TPM Account Managers to negotiate Manufacturing Service Agreements and amendments, ensuring compliance with terms and effective planning and material procurement strategies.
  • Ensure global logistics support all phases of the manufacturing agreement in line with Purchasing and Supplier quality expectations.
  • Provide timely communication to TPM regarding product forecasts, manufacturing and delivery schedules.
  • Lead development of Financial Operating Plan, Updates, LRP, and Standard processes; ensure financial goals are met.
  • Monitor manufacturing performance using appropriate metrics; ensure processes and standards deliver product per AbbVie quality expectations.
  • Coordinate with internal AbbVie partners to ensure TPM has required quality systems and documentation to meet regulatory requirements; manage QA interactions, annual quality management review, and periodic audits; ensure timely deviation investigations and disposition decisions.
  • Lead a performance improvement culture across TPMs; guide Account Managers to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Coach managers and set clear expectations regarding responsibilities, goals, and behaviors; model AbbVie performance and talent management practices.
  • Coordinate routine management reviews and communicate TPM performance to internal and TPM stakeholders, highlighting issues and ongoing improvements.
  • Represent Manufacturing with internal Brand Teams related to TPM manufacturing processes; hire, manage performance, develop talent, and set clear expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€šร„รดs Degree in a technical field required; advanced technical degree (Masterโ€šร„รดs or Doctorate) strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience including individual contributor technical expertise and proven project management skills.
  • Progressively increased responsibility as supervisor, department manager, and leader of diverse operations teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering, etc.).
  • Business acumen with functional leadership experience to drive effectiveness and high performance in a complex operation.
